? about Hunger

Recommended Posts

I was just reading in the thread on fills people talking about being hungry and it prompted me to ask this question as it has been on my mind since I had my surgery.

Does it seem to anyone else that hunger feels very different and last only a few moments?

I mean I get hungry on and off all day but it is not as intense, it is not anyhing I feel I want to do something about and it is over in just a matter of minutes.

I am sure it could have something to do with the fact that it has only been 3 weeks since my surgery but I just don't feel the need to eat because my stomach growls. It is kind of like it is just a noise there is not any pain or discomfort or a sense of me being driven to fill a need. It is just an annoying sound with no sense of urgency to act to make it stop!

Does anyone else feel this way?

I can not help but wonder if this is part of how the tool works?

Yes, I feel the same way. I'm 2 weeks post-op now. My stomach makes some awful noises........noises that would have meant I was *really* hungry pre-surgery. But, now it is just noise and I'm not particularly famished and running for food.

Can't complain!! It definitely helps me stick to this liquid diet I'm still on :o

yes - same here too

My stomach isn't even growling - if I'm a little hungry a coffee sorts me out - don't feel like eating much at all. It's been a week since my surgery and I feel able to eat anything cos I've not had a fill but to be honest I just don't want it.

Here's hoping it lasts!

The hunger..doees come believe me I am one year post op...and boy when I get hungry...momma wants to EAT! time to go for a walk or have a coffee...exercise or a drink usually suffices...obviously my tummy tells me i'm hungry but my band tells me i am not...I mostly listen to the band.... and have some liquids.< /p>

Well I am not saying that I do not get hungry (certainly get hungry less than before) it is just not anything that is a big deal since surgery. I mean I do not feel like I should go and eat right away. Plus if I fix a hot cocoa or I drink a cup of broth or whatever it is gone and then I feel fine.

As time goes on you will be able to tell the difference between head hunger and real hunger, between hunger pain noises and just noises. You will definitely hear a difference in sounds your body makes. Some of us get gurgling in our throats from time to time as well.

Right before your first fill you might start really feeling hungry. That is when you know its time to get that fill. Until then, enjoy this new state, but know as time goes on you might feel hungry again. You just won't be able to eat as much to do damage after you start getting fills.

Yeah, I get that a lot, especially lately when I have really upped my exercise. Must be the lower tummy relatively empty but I'm still getting satiety messages from my upper tummy being full. Its like "oh, my stomach is growling" but no real urgent EAT messages are coming from it.

other times I'm just starvin marvin well and truly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
