I can give you a preview. Was 6 weeks on Wednesday. The NUT assured me a glass of wine is just fine as did the PA on my post op. Found out last week that we had the opportunity for a trip and now that I have all my dietary restrictions lifted' date=' (that is scary in itself) I tried a glass of wine on Sunday to see how it would go. (3 days early) and I was fine. Hubby and I enjoyed a glass of wine last night but it does get me buzzed pretty fast. Probably because I still can't always get in my 800 calories. Felt a touch of acid reflux but was almost time for my pepcid anyway. Didn't feel the desire to have another glass though and pre surgery I would have for sure. Tummy told me that was plenty. Took my time with it and it lasted almost 2 hours.

At least it helped me get to 800 calories but wouldn't recommend it every day. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

I am 4 months out. I will tell you that I enjoy an occasional glass of wine but I know it's very high in sugar. I can't tolerate too much sugar or fat. 1 itsy bitsy bite of dessert caused me to have to miss work the next day because I was in the restroom with diarrhea most of the day. I can, at 4 months out now enjoy an occasional glass of wine but because of the high caloric count, I choose to drink Vodka and Ocean Spray Diet Cranberry juice with some Passionfruit Crystal Light. It's awesome and the diet cranberry only has 5 grams of sugar.

Girl did you not read the thread yesterday how a woman knew a woman that drank to much soda and popped her pouch!!!

:o

Thinking rational people realize that this only happens if you eat Pop-Rocks prior to drinking the soda.. just ask Mikey.

Are there any VSG urban legends that you can think of that you have debunked?

The 1st one I can think of is: I won't feel hungry after surgery.

Sure the part of our stomach that produces ghrelin is gone and our physical hunger is reduced or even eliminated... but no one can tell me that "head hunger" doesn't feel real and powerful!

It's gotta be like "fantom pain" when you lose a limb??? Kind of sort of ?? :/

Popping a pouch only happens to other people who know other people.. So we're safe :D

But what if we are the other people? What if I am the neighbor of the friend who knows her sister in law's hairdresser's mother's cousin twice removed????

:P :P

Here's one - that you will feel great in no time, like a day or two, after having major surgery where they remove 85% of your stomach. Your energy level will through the roof!! Geeze....hate to admit it, but I was really hoping that one was true! Um, not so much.

That only idiots w/ no self control and willpower have to have surgery. And only the truly insane would go out of the country for surgery.

(Can't believe they let me have a laptop here in the asylum! Muahahahahaha!!!) ;)

This is not true unless you are drinking a fortified wine (port) or cheap wine coolers (tip...if the wine is blue or green it's not wine). THe sugars are cooked off in the processing (naturally not on an oven) which leaves wine as one of the lowest carb drinks you can have unless you do something like vodka. Wine is typically less than 3 g carbs in a glass and maybe 80 calories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
