Hey everyone!

I am due for sleeve surgery on the 29th of April. I'm on day three of my pre-op diet. The diet consists of 2 (11oz) Protein Shakes, 2 cups of plain steamed vegetables, 2 medium pieces of fruit, 20 oz of skim or 1% milk and unlimited Water per day. I at times have the worst headaches ever and feel extremely nauseous. Has anyone else experienced this? I have not cheated at all but now I understand why some people have. Even though I am drinking an adequate amount of water I still feel as if I am going to pass out sometimes. Should I talk to the doctors office?

My pre-op is in day 8, surgery scheduled the 24th of April. My diet is completely different: 3-4 Protein Shakes a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and may have one in the evening) and Water, broth, sugar-free crystal lite. I had headaches the first few days and blamed it on caffeine withdrawal. Did you drink colas or coffee or tea previously?

I also had terrible headaches at first when starting the liquid diet and the first few days after my surgery. Definately caffeine withdrawal. Have a little coffee or tea and taper it off gradually. I stil have a small cup of coffee each morning because the thought of having one of those headaches is too much.

It might be the caffeine but also could be carb withdrawl, the dreaded "carb flu". Your body does not like buring fat instead of carbs until it gets used to it. It will pass. Also, try some broth as one of your liquids. Something savory, hot and with salt will (hopefully) make you feel better. Good luck!

I start my diet tomorrow and I'm pretty jealous that you get to eat so much!! I'm on liquid only, but I don't have a limit on how many shakes. I can also do Jello, broth, crystal light. No coffee restriction tho. I only drink I cup a day anyway.

Surgery day is May 2nd! can't wait to hear how you do!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
