I'm not too surprised, some folks can handle heavier foods but many have shared that Pasta (lo mein noodles) doesn't sit well. I wasn't on full foods until 6 weeks out. Good luck.

I'm not cleared for regular/unrestricted diet till the 9 week mark. I'd try something a bit lighter. It's a lot of trial and error to see what your new tummy will tolerate.

Ok I'll be the d**k who asks the question you all were thinking! Why would you get 85% of your stomach removed and be eating Chinese take out a month later? Ooh I know I'm a mean man, but sometimes "support is a kick in the rear" really, hate me if you want , but think it over and the honest answer you tell yourself is exactly where change must start for you! For sure one of the biggest changes for lots of us is taking control/ responsibility for what we eat. This takes planning ,shopping and preparing our food ourselves. Please, you are early in recovery make healthy changes now, so you can be successful in the long term! Good luck!!!

In OP's defense, we don't know that it was take out. Homemade lo mein can be quite veggie heavy (at least the way I make it, with a lot of cabbage), and not ideal for a new tummy. Pasta certainly isn't the ideal meal for us, but it can fit into a healthy diet, I think.

Ok I'm just mad cause I'm 15 months from surgery and still can't eat Pasta, feels like shards of glass in my stomach! Btw veggie heavy is not how my nut laid out my eating plan but I get what you are saying. Good luck!

Chinese has not caused me any problems at all. Or any kind of Pasta for that matter. Obviously I can't eat very much but the 4 bites I can manage are simply delicious.

Sharon,

I must say girlie you slay me! You are like the poster child around here of what not to do :P

Smoking, eating "real" food a week out from surgery,

And not giving a f**k what anyone says about it!

Haha gotta love it!

Hey there Laura. You are right that I should be the What Not To Do poster child. I guess every social circle has one. I was trying to think of anything else I've done that wouldn't be recommended so I could just confess everything right now but I think I've covered everything already, Well - except I've been eating too much candy so I had to get it out of the house. It's funny how the worst food choices go down the easiest. But the candy craze is over now so I'll just try to be better from here on out.

I enjoy your posts quite a bit. Thanks for making this forum a friendlier place. We could use a few more like you:)

Yes the worst food does go down the easiest!

One of the girls I was in the hospital with calls me still and we have said to each other "girl eating to many chicken breasts didn't get me here, ice cream did" :P

I think that's what went wrong (I could be wrong)

With a lot of lap band people, it was just easier,

More comfortable to eat slider foods.

It's a scary prospect when you are someone like me who has a serious problem with food,

I realize though not everyone has my same issues...

Oh and I saw your Easter candy post I just didn't want to out you on EVERYTHING :P

I understand your hunger, but I must also what were you thinking of. Now, go back and follow your dietary manual and as the months go by you will learn what sits well with your new stomach and what does not. The word is trial and error all the way. Just to give an example I was unable to eat tuna fish until 1/2013 since my surgery 4/2012. Keep going and one day soon perhaps you might be able to tolerate lo mein.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
