First time with beef/steak

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I made a beef stew - like - dinner in the crockpot. Instead of stew meat, I used thin strips of top round steak that just fell apart when it was done. :) so I had my little 1.5 oz of it with a little juice from the pot for extra moisture. It was yummy!

Everything was fine until 4 am when I had bile coming up into my throat and mouth. Never had that happen before. Do you think it was the meat? I take Prevacid every day. Little confused.

How far along are you? Sometimes steak it a little tough on your sleeve and if you're early out you might want to take it off your list and try again once your further out.. Also how long did you wait before you laid down? Eating dense Protein and going to bed can cause acid reflux..

You might just want to try less acid stuff I'm sure that crock pot probably had tomatoes or wine In it right? Maybe just bad combination for a brand new tummy.. I couldn't even eat eggs when I first got sleeved. i tell you I was a sad panda.. Eggs are my favorite.. i tried a few weeks later and had no issues with them so maybe try again in a few weeks..

Well, I highly recommend taking this opportunity to exclude beef from your diet for good. For one, it is good for the planet, but most importantly, it is good for you (everyone) not to eat red meat. You can get Protein many ways - green juicing, leafy greens and vegetables (kale, spinach, watercress, artichokes, brussel sprouts, etc.), legumes. Getting sleeved is a great opportunity and tool to re-evaluate and look at the type of food in which you fuel your body.

Best to you!

What did you cook the beef in? I doubt it was the meat. To rule it out I would try again and if same thing happens then u know :) Red meat is such a good source of Iron.< /p>

It was literally just carrots, potatoes, steak, Water and a packet of beef stew mix.

My surgeon told me there was a good possibility I would never be able to tolerate red meat or pork again! :(

Exclude beef from my diet? Please...as Ron White says, I'm doing my part to help the environment...I'm eating the cows!!

PS this is not my attempt to start a save the planet debate, it is just my attempt at a little humor :)

CA--I've been trying to eat as close to plant based/vegan as I can, but I keep getting told that after my sleeve (Monday 4/22) there is no way to be vegan/vegetarian and still get enough Protein. I disagree but have agreed to eat meat if I am unable to meet my protein requirements otherwise. I juice all the time, but have never figured out how to know how many calories/carbs etc are in my juice. I would love to hear what you eat and know how you are meeting all of your nutritional needs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
