I have my surgery scheduled for July 31st. I am currently on day 3 of my 2 week liquid pre op diet. I am taking in 100 ounces of water' date=' 4 Protein Shakes a day and about 3 sugar free jellos. I don't like broth so that is out of the question. Any other ideas for something I can have? I am in countdown mode but so hungry, will this feeling ever go away?

Hungry in Houston!!!![/quote']

I am the 31st also and begin my liquid diet assigned by the nut today. I have been doing my own off and on since the first (only eatig food 7 days this month and down 20 lbs from last visit to nut!). Mine is 4 carnation instant breakfasts (I could not afford optifast), one Protein Shake, all the broth, zero calorie drinks I want. Also I get one Proti bar to get the chew feeling. That is all. If u don't like broth they said I could have low cal cream Soups like Tomato. Popscicles, Jello, coffee, diet tea....

All those who are sick of pre op liquid diet just realize the whole liquid thing continues for two weeks after surgery as well and only then do u start incorporating purées and such and very slowly adding normal chewable food into your diet. I'm almost two weeks out - was sleeved the 8th down almost 30 lbs but going seriously nuts with lack of food. I have had a bite or two of things I'm not supposed to because I'm going insane but I made sure to chew like crazy before swallowing. Meet with my nut on Tuesday see what she has to say.. Maybe I can do soft Proteins ...

Twinzrule... is right it does continue. I was only 1 week on Clear Liquids with the ok to add 1 full liquid a day to see how I could handle it. So far so good. The only thing is Protein it self I cant drink with Water , soy milk or in my broth. It makes me hurt alot. Besides that everything I see my weight going down n am pleased.

I had a 21 day liquid diet before surgery, now the first week after is clear liquid then the 2nd and 3rd weeks are still liquid but can move up to cream Soups and I'll be able to drink my muscle milk again. So if your tired of a liquid diet of only a week or two you might need to step back and look at the big picture... Also cheating after the surgery is risky and could be life threatening!! This really isn't something to mess with. I will tell you it's very hard when your family is eating right in front of you and you can smell even just a turkey sandwich and wish to bite into it, but you have to eat your ice chips! This is not easy at all, and it's not ever going to be your old normal ever again. You must become someone new, everything must change forever! As I fixed my sons turkey sandwich I sniffed it with my eyes closed bc I am starving, but thank god I have self control that I really never thought I had before! You have to want this with your all, there can be no "one little bites" it just cannot happen if you want this to go the way it's supposed to go! I know one thing, if I ever hear another person say "you took the easy way out" I honestly think I will deck them!! No wait I know I will deck them!! This isn't easy!

I was sleeved on the 11th. My NUT told me this week that when they cut out the stomach they also cut out the acids and things that absorb and digest the food. So the liquid portion is necessary until those things replenish.

She said I could eat an egg but it would just sit there and not move. You can imagine that would not be a good thing. Since she told me that I have been much more patient because I was climbing the walls. I feel like I could eat anything but I know better. Be patient, you just can't do it yet.

In fact today I can add yogurt. Tastes like Heaven! BTW 9 days post op and -12lbs.

Hey all!

I have my VSG last week (7/10/2013) and returned to work the following week. I'm thrilled to have had the procedure done and have lost 29lbs. since beginning my pre-op diet 3.5 weeks ago. I'm excited about getting released for exercise and full activity in a couple more weeks.

Found out I'm allergic to the glue used for incisions... so I am itchy!

Any tips for exercises? Any food warnings?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
