Good luck with the pre-op diet. It's rough, but doable. I've lost several pounds already. This is my 6th day. I have surgery the 23. Hang tough the first 3 or 4 days and it really does get easier. Thoughts and prayers going out to all July 11 sleevers. Keep us posted.

I actually have previous experience with being on a liquid diet. strangely enough my doctor is having me do 8 days of 2 shakes with 1 meal of 3-4oz of Protein like chicken/fish with some select veggies then 2 days before the surgery i go Clear liquids.

I know some people have to do something like 2 weeks of liquids so I guess I am lucky in that respect.

I had my upper GI today and I couldn't eat or drink before it. Since I had anotheer appointment after it, I packed a vanilla carnation. After that nasty, nasty barium I couldn't face the Protein Drink and had to eat something solid. Since I am allowed 6 Carnations a day, I counted my solid food as 2 and will finish the day with 4. I have been tasting that Barium all day and feel like it is stuck in my esophagus!

Why is it that some doctors prescribe a liquid diet my doctor here in Dubai just advised on a no fat diet ... Does anyone know why the difference?

It could be that your BMI is not very high (35 or so). Fat swells the liver.

All you pre-op diet folks, first, good luck and second, just remember that the purpose is to help your surgeon and make your surgery safer and your recovery faster! Trust me, cheating isn't worth any extra pain or a larger hole for the liver retractor post-op.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
