Yay!!! I'm so excited! I'm having a revision. So I'm most nervous about getting my band out. Do you have to do a pre-op diet?

Where to start?!?! The band sucks beyond belief! I have had it for 8 yrs. It has never worked. It is above my stomach so food gets stuck above my stomach and then I can't eat and I'm STARVING! And I haven't had any "fill" in my band for 7 years. First thing in the morning food always gets stuck, esp eggs and milk. Things that go down easily are sugary foods. I think it's because sugar is broken down starting with saliva and things like veggies don't get broken down until they get to the actual stomach, where the bile is. :/

Got a dumb question. Can you eat orange and red sugar free Jello on a clear liquid diet? Also, do you drink Protein Shakes during clear liquid phase? And which Protein Shake is clear? LOL

Hi, ornurse! Do you have a nutritionist on your surgery team? He or she can tell you everrrrrything about what to eat and what to avoid...that being said, I haven't heard anything about avoiding certain colors of jello. Protein Powder shakes are usually during "full liquids" since they are a suspension of Protein powder in a liquid base of Water or milk. A good clear Protein Drink (premade) is Isopure Clear--it's a little pricey, around $4.00 a bottle, but the coconut one that I tried wasn't bad at all.

Well, today wasn't too bad for the first day of the pre-op diet. I even had a little bit more than 100 calories left over, and I'm not hungry, though I should go have another glass of Water before I go to sleep, methinks. I'm glad I decided to start one day early, though. I have a hard time thinking I'm going to lose 10 lbs in one week on this, but hey, that's what the sheet says. 10 lbs, 7 days, 870 calories a day. Go, me!

Could you please post what your meal plan is? Mine is for 1200 calories and I know I will not lose on that, I never have. I plan to start to or row. It's a week early but I need a jump on this.

Just found out I'm having surgery on July 1! That means I only have 6 days for my pre-op diet. I hope that will be enough!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
