I posted an update on my process in another thread, but I also wanted to do a new thread because I have even more news!

In the other thread, I posted this:

Just got a voicemail from the pulmonologist's office. They have appointments available next week, which is a LOT sooner than I thought I could get one. I thought this would take the longest, since I just found out about the requirement right before Thanksgiving and had to get a referral from my PCP.

So now, all I am hoping for is that my insurance will take my Phentermine program. I was on it for an entire year, ending last December. Usually, my insurance requires people to have been on a three-month-long MD supervised diet program that ended within 6 months of applying for surgery. I am hoping against hope that they will decide that my year-long program shows that I am serious about this and not doing it on a whim. If not, my surgery will have to be put off until May, since I won't have time to have it during the college semester.

Well, I just checked my email, and the coordinator from the surgery center said that she thinks my phentermine program will be fine. So now, I get to schedule my surgeon's consultation, psych eval, and nutritionist's eval. Hopefully, I can get all that done as soon as possible, along with the pulmonology thing, and have everything sent to insurance within a week or so.:biggrin1:

This is all happening so fast all of a sudden. It seemed like it was dragging along, and now it is like whoosh!:faint:

So you might be able to do it between semsters?
That's what I am hoping for. I REALLY want to try to get it done before the end of the year, but I know that's a long shot. It all depends on insurance, I guess, if I can have all my appointments soon.

Wow. That is great. I should have waited for the semester to be over with, but I am not patient. I also was thinking about if I walked across the stage on Dec 16, I would be down a few pounds if I went ahead with it. lol But I have decided (again) not to walk this time. I will probably walk when I complete my master's degree. We will see.

Good luck to you. I hope it all works out nice, fast and smooth.

Lauren, that is great news. I remember when my insurance finally approved me how exciting that was. I'm excited for you. Hopefully you can have surgery before the end of the year. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
