How were you at 2 weeks out?!

Recommended Posts

So, surgery is in one week!! woohoo!! I still feel like it isn't real...or that something is going to happen to mess it all up. I am really excited but really scared at the same time. Because my temp disability pays so little ($171 per week) I cant stay out of work for more than 2 weeks, as I also only have 40 hours of pto (got sick 2 weeks ago and had to use up 2 days ugh!).

So my question is, how was everyone at 2 weeks out? Those that did not have complications, as I understand that this will put me out of work for longer. I expect I will still be getting tired easily, but is there any pain? Anything I should be concerned about?

I've read posts where people are back to work within a few days, and then others who are going through hell for a few weeks. I just wanted to get more imput on this...

Thanks!

I didn't really have much pain at 2 weeks out.. a tweak here and there if I bent wrong.. As long as you have an office job, I would think you should be fine.

Lol I don't know if I'm the best to answer because I don't work, shhhh.... Don't tell anyone :)

But at two weeks I was "feeling" a bit better I'd have to say it was about the 4 week mark that I felt more "normal"

At two weeks I still would get tired easily so that could be an issue depending on your job.

Another thing is digestion was still a little wonky I would be out shopping and several times had to find a restroom quickly :o

So if you keep these things in mind along with having to go back its probably doable :)

Oh and drinking is like a full time job in itself so you really have to be able to work that into your schedule at work.

I'm 2 weeks out & feel great. I stopped taking pain meds even before I left the hospital. I've been a little lazy & sleep in.. but that's because my waterbed feels really good :) I walked for an hour today - 3 miles, and wasn't tired.

I'm a teacher. Went back to work after two weeks. I felt good, maybe a little tired, but I was tired before the surgery. Everyday gets better.

I'm 6 weeks out and took one week off work. I have a full time office job but had no trouble bouncing back. Tired a little but was great!

I went back to work after 2 weeks but finished early each day as I got really tired. You need to ensure you have all your food sorted because you don't want to be worrying about that while at work. Getting enough to eat and drink while at work is a bit of an issue as you feel as if you are trying to get food or drink in nearly all of the time. You should be fine though. Good luck

I will be going back to work after two weeks. I have a very physical job so I will have my doc give me a note for lite duty for two weeks after that. I plan to pre-pack my meals and have bought Water bottles with filters. Will see what happens!

I'm three wks out and a teacher.....I had my surgery on the day bf spring break then back to work after one week.....if you don't have complications....and drink, drink, drink, Protein shots are the best with a little Water you'll be fine.....my boss doesn't like it when we sit and teach during our lessons so I've found it helps with digestion, and I got a monitor...the UP Bracelet that monitors activity and converts it into calories burned and its so motivational to me o keep moving......UP to 20k steps in a day now...

I went back to work at one week I have desk job. Surgery on 4/4/13 and back to work the following Thursday, I was very tired the first two days. This week has been better but at around 2-3pm I'm exhausted. I go to bed early and with each day I feel better. At two weeks you should be fine, just get lots of rest at night.

Of course it depends in what you do for a living, but I went back to my desk job one week later and felt like I never left. Even walked a few laps around the building throughout the day to get moving. Again, depends on what you do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
