WeightStruggle 106 Posted April 17, 2013 So I was sleeved on 3/19. From the time I started my pre op diet to now I'm down 26lbs and it is noticeable. My family and very close friends know I had the surgery but my co-workers don't know. They are SO nosey and it's uncomfortable. I'm not ashamed of my surgery but I am a private person; especially in the workplace. How have you handled these nosey folks? I want to tell them to mind their *#%**!!!! business but I need my job!! Lol! 2 mysleevemylife and navyma reacted to this
boatdays 18 Posted April 17, 2013 I only told one person, my mom. I am down 47 lbs in just under 3 mos. I say diet and exercise. Which is the truth. Good Luck! 3 Chas74, WeightStruggle and Pixie Dust reacted to this
Pixie Dust 526 Posted April 17, 2013 I haven't been sleeved yet but I've only told my BFF who lives out of state & another friend out of state & one of my neighbors (the one who talks to no one), in case I need help with the kids, & of course my husband knows. That's IT tho! I will say (in case others find out I'm in the hospital) that I'm having hernia surgery & other than that, if anyone says anything about me losing weight, I'm just going to say I'm on a medically supervised diet. That's it. End of conversation. Done. Finished. (haha!!) Good luck to you! 1 WeightStruggle reacted to this

jazzmin 2 Posted April 17, 2013 that's a tough one. I almost didn't let my co-workers know, but on the friday before my monday surgery, I decided I would tell them that I was making a drastic decision for my health and for me ...... I worried about the web of lies I would find myself telling or eluding when the nosey co-workers started asking questions. I figured either way they will talk, and surprisingly they have been extremely supportive and ask lots of questions because others are interested in this option for weight loss. tough call on how to handle your privacy as they are going to see you 'magically' transform right before their very eyes . You can just tell them you've decided to make a lifestyle change and better your health......and leave it at that! LOL good luck -) 2 WeightStruggle and rollargirl reacted to this

JennyBeth 127 Posted April 17, 2013 I also didn't tell anyone other than my boss, my mom and my husband. I told everyone at work I was having a "procedure" done and then would just change the subject every time one of the nosy ones would ask, "for what?" But the day before my surgery I decided to let people know, but started with, "This is an extremely personal decision that I've spent a long time researching so I am well aware of the risks involved" because I also didn't want to get stuck in a web of lies. Also, you tend to drop weight at a much faster rate than you can with just diet and exercise and I didn't want others to feel like failures when they couldn't achieve the same results. 3 rollargirl, WeightStruggle and AmandaRaeLeo reacted to this
mgsmith 35 Posted April 17, 2013 At first I didn't tell anyone but my boss also. When I told her she volunteered that she had the gastric bypass a few years ago. I had only told a few people before surgery but when I returned to work I pretty much told whoever asked because I didn't want to hide in a corner at lunch time. All of my co workers were very supportive and still is. Having that support at work keeps me on my toes. They make sure I don't fall back and eat those sweet and sugary doughnuts!!! Glad they know, good luck!!
lilbearzmom 584 Posted April 17, 2013 that's what I told people at work.. Diet and exercise.. Same here. Actually a few of my coworkers know, and my family. I am in a RT program, and none of them know, but since I have lost 58 lbs since surgery, it's obvious. I told them I was limiting carbs and exercising. Maybe they suspect. I just don't think its anyone's business and I am choosy who I share it with.
SusieK710 130 Posted April 17, 2013 My coworkers know since its a small department of nurses. A casual friend remarked today on the weight loss and asked, " I'm wrestling the beast" i told her and laughed. Then asked about her. 1 WeightStruggle reacted to this
NevadaDave 66 Posted April 17, 2013 Remember that you are the same person before and after surgery, so the co workers should accept you ether way. so if you want to keep it privet then let them mind the own business
