Hello & Some Questions...

Recommended Posts

Good Afternoon,

How are you all doing?

I'm doing good. It's now been 12 days since my surgery. I'm feeling good, but very hungry. I feel like I could start eating, but I'm on my 1st week of FULL liquids. Could I have more than what they are suggesting on paper? I find I could eat way more than that. I stepped on the scale this morning and I'm up 2 pouns, so I was a little upset about that. I know that my body is still trying to recover and these next few weeks are really not about losing weight, but about recovering right? I will not eat solids till they say it's okay, but I'm wondering if I could eat more now?

Thanks,

Doriana

Hi Doriana,

I found that thicker Soups like Gardennay were a life saver. I don't know if your doc allows them at this point, but I ate them and had no adverse reactions at all. If i were u i would call the doc's office and ask, I bet they will let you have something a bit more substantial.

As far as gaining two lbs, it's just Fluid, don't worry about it!

Just stick with it Doriana; if you got thru the pre-op diet you can get through this!!! Take it one day (one hour if you have to) at a time!!! Sooner than you think you will be on mushies and then you can have refried Beans mixed with salsa and sour creme an cheese (that's what I liked during that stage!)l.

You can do it!!!! Set a good example for Mr Doriana!

Thanks for your replies.

Mr. Doriana is doing very good too. He's down a total o 30 pounds that's with the pre diet and all.

I just don't want to over-do-it with the full liquid stage....

Ciao for now.

Have a great night.

Doriana

Exactly, it's about healing right now. You wanna know if you can eat (drink, technically) more, right? I'm not going to tell you what to do, but what *I* did, was eat as much as I needed to to be comfortably full, within reason. I don't even know if my post-op diet specified amounts... if they did, I didn't follow them (or maybe I did, without realizing it)

Creamy Soups really helped me. Don't worry about the weight gain. I had lost a little bit then bam gained about 6 or 8 lbs. It went away after I had a fill. Until you have restriction the band is not performing up to expectations.

Are you using any kind of a Protein supplement? They were (and contineu to be) a godsend for me. They keep up your strength, satisfy the cravings, and help kick the hunger. You need about a 100 grams of protein a day and 1/2 gal of water....by using a good Liquid Protein you can help meet both goals. There are some very good tasting ones on the market....but you have to hunt for them. Be sure you get a powder that's made for bariatric patients, not weight lifters!! nectar is a good brand, so is Matrix and IDS.....both hot and cold drinks.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
