I was banded about 7 years ago. Can anyone share with me the removal surgery? Time? Pain? Recovery?

Thank you

Hi! I was banded in 2008 and had it removed in 2010. Just got my sleeve 5 weeks ago. My removal was just about the same as when they put it in. Recovery was about the same except that I could eat. Some doctors do it all in one procedure, but I had mine done separately.

I'd kinda like to know this also. You're getting revised at the same time, right? I'm hoping to do this, hoping my inflammation goes down in the next 2 months. I'm totally unfilled now and can feel everything I eat. I'm going on an Alaskan cruise May 7-14 and then to Ca for 2 weeks in June, so I was hoping to wait until after thats all over with so I'm not on vacation on a liquid diet!

I did pretty well after my band surgery in Oct 2009, minimal pain, minimal gas. I'm just wondering if 2 procedures (removal and sleeved) make it worse or the same? I spent one night in the hospital with my band and I will also spend one night with the sleeve. At least this time I have someone to take care of me (got married last year!). I guess that also means I have to watch someone eat also! Oh well....

Hope you get some answers, cuz I'm curious also!

I am getting my Lapband taken out, waiting 3 months then being sleeved. I highly recommend this.

My friend had it all in one go, and because she didn't let her stomach heal after her lapband removal she feels zero restriction. Hasn't lost a pound.

I rather be safe than sorry

Can you explain your recovery? Were you sore? Could you lift after?

Did you eat normal right after?

I was sore, like after I got the band. But nothing too bad (I seem to recover easily) after about day 3 I was ok. Only took a few days off work, I work a desk job. I don't specifically remember the lifting, but I pretty much did all the normal stuff. I was on liquids for a couple days, but even drinking was better. I think I was eating normally within a few days. Luckily, I didn't end up with any damage from the band. I had it removed because is slipped. But, dang I was glad to have that thing out of me!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
