Can my new stomach stretch with drinking water?

Recommended Posts

I'm exactly 2 wks post op today. And I introduced soft foods beginning Thursday afternoon but I have been getting my 64 oz of Water in since my first week. What I'm afraid is that I am able to down a little bit more than half the 16oz bottle of water with out feeling that pressure. Did my stomach stretch :-( I'm scared I'm taking in too much water but I love my water...

no you didn't stretch. Early on, fluids aren't as restrictive as they will be as you heal up. As you get further along, you will start to feel fuller. Just remember to sip not gulp as the air will make you pretty uncomfortable.

I'm 3 weeks out today and actually my Dr and NUT want me to drink large quantities at a time. No more sipping as of last week. I am a Water guzzler so I was happy about it. Just follow what your Dr says and if you have any questions as to which you should be doing give them a call. Each doc is different unfortunately.

Why did they say to drink lots at a time?? I'm a guzzler as well-- sometimes it hits and I'm like ohhhh! Lol

They didn't say why just no more sipping. I was totally okay with it! LOL! Sometimes after I get in 4-5 big gulps I get a little tightness but it goes away really quick and I can do that every couple of minutes.

That's pretty much what I'm doing that's why I was scared that I might be stretching the new stomach n not to mention I can tolerate a lil over half of a 16oz Water with no problem

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
