How much weight can a person really lose?

I'm 5"1' and 240lbs, 31 years old and moderately active...

Can I reach 130-140????

If no, what's real?

If yes, give me some tips...

I'm building a notebook to refer to and do this thing !!

Well, the average weight loss for sleeve patients is 60% of their excess weight - for example, if your goal is 140, you have 100 lbs of excess weight, and if you were absolutely average, you'd lose 60 lbs of it. The reality is, though, that averages are hooey - it's all about you. Many people here at VST are at or near goal (i.e., 100% excess weight lost). Others don't do as well, for whatever reason. However, if you stick to the plan and get your Protein, Water and exercise in, you could certainly achieve your goal. Don't let yourself get sidetracked by stalls and give up - the stalls are normal, you just need to work through them and the weight will start coming off again.

You and I are similar in stats but I have 3/4 of an inch on you. Lol.

I also had a HW of 273. I'm also several years older than you with two kids.

I'm past my surgeons goal of 170. Currently 167 and not stopping.

You can do this thing if you get your life and work your sleeve!

My doc expected me to stop losing at 100 pounds. I have lost more then 140. If you are willing to put in the work you will get better results.

You can lose as much as you put your mind to. I am now 115 lbs, 5'2", size 1,2 or 3 depending on brand.

The surgery is a tool, how you use it is what makes the difference.

Learn healthy eating and cooking preparation.

Start an exercise routine that you can stick with.

Protein and Water are VERY important.

You'll do GREAT!

Thank you, thank you, thank you ... I am gripped with the fear that I'll only lose like 20-40 lbs. Yes, I would be thankful for that, but I've achieved that without a major surgery. I can't even imagine myself so small- but guess it is awesome :-). The last time I weighed 130 I think I was like 10 or 11 years old :-(. I am ask paying in Mexico, an don't have a nutritionist - so I'm looking for advice, and what has worked for others. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Honestly, I'd love a buddy to be able to be accountable to, chat with from time to time and get good ideas from .... If anyone is interested let me know. - thanks.

Honestly you can lose s much as you want but it takes work Learning to eat different. Choosing to eat healthy and not just Chosing to eat lower calories....at least this is what works for me. Eating more Protein than carbs of course there's the occasional where its flipped but not daily. I do fluctuate during the week but for the most part eating more Protein than carbs is very important for me to lose. Everyone is different so just find what works for you. Good luck on this awesome journey!

130 is my goal too! I'm exactly 5ft tall. I was 29 yo when I was sleeved on Jan 11, 2012. I started at around 272 lbs, and on the day of surgery I was 261lbs (lost 11lbs in 3 weeks pre-op). On my first surgiversary on Jan 12, 2013, I weighed 152 lbs - which was a 120lbs loss for the first year (including pre-op 11lbs). Today I weigh 143 lbs - which is my surgeon's goal weight for me. Having come this far gives me hope that I can cross that finish line and be at 130 some day. Somedays, I think I probably wont care if I dont lose a lb anymore. Somedays, I think I will be ecstatic if I lose one more lb. But currently, I'm a happy satisfied woman :)

With this experience behind me, all I can say you is this: I know it sounds too unrealistic, but really - you can lose how much ever you want to lose. Will you lose it all in one year? a year and half? Probably - if you try hard enough and are lucky with the stalls. Who knows - maybe you would reach 130 sooner than me :) :) :) ALL THE BEST!!!!

PS: I dont have many tips as such -- I regularly and religeously kept track of my food intake. And I haunted this forum for any sliver of wisdom these great folks share :) But if you would like to talk about my experience, send me a message and I would be happy to share my experiences.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
