I don't know what's going on with me but lately ive been snacking way too much I don't know how to eat. It's depressing me. I haven't really lost any weight In about 3 weeks and I don't know where to start to get back on track. I feel like when I eat, I don't know when I'm full until I'm full... How many calories should I be at? I am 3 months out and have lost 56 pounds... Please help

myfitnesspal.com )a free app) was a life saver for me as far as tracking calories. There are MANY opinions and I certainly can only speak for me. I work out 6 days a week. If I eat 800-1100 calories per day I lose, if I eat 1200-1400 per day I gain. Its a fine line. Some others have more lee-way but I don't. It is my greatest down fall to snack. Really try hard to stick to 3 meals, 4 tops per day. I wish you only success- you can do this.

Aww thanks so much for your response! I haven't really been tracking calories but I'd say they're anywhere between 700-900 and it's hard to find time for the gym. I have 2 kids work full time and go to school full time by all means that shouldn't be an excuse but it's really draining and most of my days are from 4am-11pm (if I'm lucky) I've been having this crazy craving for Cheetos which is weird because I've never eaten them before. I was never a chip person and now I crave them, I don't get it. How many calories do you burn at the gym? What do you do at the gym? How many pounds a week are you losing? Sorry for the questions but everyone in my family is thin and they just don't get what I'm going through..

First of all, congratulations!

Have you discussed this at all with your NUT? If you have access to one, I would do so - he or she has likely heard it all before and can give you a plan to get back on track, and would probably also be your best bet for how many calories you should be eating.

If you don't have a NUT, then you might want to think about doing 3 meals with 1-2 PLANNED Snacks to keep you from grazing mindlessly. It seems to me that most people are still running 700-900 calories a day at 3 months, but I'm sure that others will chime in and talk from a personal perspective. Beyond that, back to basics - Protein first, then produce. Avoid simple carbs (i.e., sugar, white breads, etc). Get at least 60 grams of Protein a day - it keeps you fuller longer. Don't forget to drink Water - you might try some Water first if you feel like an unplanned snack and it might help keep you from mindlessly grabbing that snack.

Best of luck - you'll get back on track!

Wow- sounds like you have a crazy schedule!!! Even eating 700-900 calories per day it is real common to hit plateaus as our bodies are getting used to all the weight loss. I burn from 400-600 calories per day exercising but have been at a plateau since January. But back when I was losing- I was losing two to three pounds per week for three weeks, then I would plateau for a week or two then start losing again.

chips are my guilty pleasure. Do you have a favorite?

Hi! Thank you! I actually just contacted my nutritionist in Saturday and I'm waiting for her to get back to me tomorrow. I have a huge list of questions to ask her. This whole eating thing is so stressful to me. How do you get in all your protein without all of the calories? Water does work for fulfillment as well but I feel like when I have "time" all I think about is food (I don't eat everything in sight) the thoughts make me feel just as guilty as I would feel had I eaten them. Sorry I guess I'm just venting LOL. Thanks for your suggestions! I'm going to have to adjust quite a bit on my meal planning. Thanks!

Oh boy it's way too crazy! Lol. Good to know that if isn't just me. Yes I do munch but I definitely don't over do the calorie intake (more than 1000 on a really bad day) that sounds like a good amount of calories to burn. Basically half of your intake. I'm going to have to start going to the gym on a regular basis even if it's just for an hour. Someone told me that the best way for me to work out and eat is to burn all the calories I've eaten, freaked me out a bit but thinking about it 400-600 is at least half. chips are so dangerous for me now lol I don't know why but I don't have a favorite just the craving of Cheetos :/. I eat a serving a day which is terrible but it's really a craving I haven't been able to cut for about 2 weeks. Before the Cheetos it was the hot Cheetos for about a week. I even went to the Walgreens down the street late at night for these chips. I don't get where it's coming from.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
