I'm not too fond of Protein Shakes right now either. I had my surgery last Wednesday and my stomach can't hold much. I don't know of any other way to get 30g of Protein in me with my new anatomy. Hold your breath and just drink; you'll be on soft foods before you know it. Good luck!

Right now, Liquid Protein is going to be your best bet while you heal. Have you tried the Isopure's? There's also Premier, EAS. Pure Protein. I am not a fan of powders, but the RTD types aren't too bad. You might drop into a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe and see if they have some samples for you to try. Also people like the Unjury unflavored and put that into things like Soups or gatorade.

How many brands of Protein Shakes have you tried? Do you just hate sweet stuff?

I hated them as well, the thought of a Protein Drink made want to throw up. I asked my doctor about this and he said not to worry about it in the beginning we would get the Protein in some other way. I think it has to do with the medicine they use to put you to sleep with. I could tolerate Protein Drinks again at about a month out. Then the weight began to fall off.I would be cautious about buying these in bulk until you try some that you think you may be able to tolerate. I have found that for myself I like the fruity flavors better. I also like vanilla and strawberry from GNC. I do not like chocolate protein drinks at all. Our tastes change a bit after surgery. I also like some of the protein bars, but that will come later.

Hi BiggieDukes...I was in the exact same position as you two weeks ago. I was sleeved on March 29/13. I went to GNC and bought flavorless Protein powder (their brand) and have been flavoring them up with Crystal Lite. My favorite so far is strawberry Lemonade. But never put too much in because the sweetness can make you shake-sick quickly....at least that's what I have found. I tried mixing a bit in with my chicken Soup broth as well. It's not nice to look at but if you sip it without looking at it, you can get it down. lol

Once you are allowed to have yogurt, get the Greek kind and try that.

I don't think I have had more than maybe 35g of Protein a day since my surgery (and usually much less) but it's the best I can do until the menu expands.

Good luck!!!

I was sleeved April 1st & start puréed food Mon (week 3). I tried Unjury (whey) & soy Protein powders. Became super nauseated so my surgeon said just to forget it for now & focus on protein from food in coming weeks. I do have a liquid pre-digested protein that is unflavored (but tastes little like honey to me) that I put in crystal light. So I may get 30 gm protein/day & I just deal with it until puréed (I can have yogurt with puréed). The nausea from Protein Powder lasted for 4 hours & put me behind on Fluid intake. Sometimes you just have to do the best you can & pick your battles. My surgeon agreed that fluid was more important for me in 1st two weeks.

I have to second the Syntrax Nectar! Every type of Protein prior to finding Syntrax made my nausea/vomiting a million times worse. Now I'm able to get my extra Protein in and not be ill- the fruit flavors are a major bonus! (The only other protein I could tolerate was Sunkist protein "shots" but I didn't like the calories in them- 170 calories and 42g protein per shot with 0 carbs, available at Nashua Nutrition online. They tasted like orange Koolaid to me.)

The key is finding the brands you can tolerate. You may have to go through a bunch of absolutely horrible ones which it sounds like you already have. I detest Unjury but others love it. At nearly 11 months out I still like to incorporate one shake a day into my diet and use it as my Breakfast. I always mix the powder ones with Soy and Ice and blend. I buy three brands.... The Pure Protein ready made from costco, Click which is ordered from Amazon and satisfies my coffee addiction, and Chike which is ordered online from their website only. They have a sample pack if you want to give them a try. Like others have said, stop by GNC or Vitamin Shoppe and see what samples they can provide.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
