Low Carbers question?

Recommended Posts

Hello!! Those that do low carb--my thoughts....under 25 carbs a day---- do u use yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta, etc......

Reason I ask-- is I tend to lose more when I do lower carb-- like when I used to do Atkins-- it was Protein only and cheese and a lil bit of veggies---- so.... I don't know if I should keep using the yogurts and cheeses etc??

What do I lower carbers do???

Thank you

You can do yogurt and cheeses as long as you count the carbs.

PS--Greek yogurt has fewer carbs--get the unflavored and add SF syrups if you want. The fruit flavors won't work--too high carb.

Jut an fyi: Fred Meyers has it's own store brand (owned by Kroger, so I'm sure Krogers also has them) has a pretty tasty low carb yogurt. Only 4 gms per container. In Feb, I gave Atkins a real try. Would've killed my mom for a cookie. My husband has no problem going off carbs but I' very cranky. Didn't cheat for 4 weeks. Didn't add yogurt or sour cream till the 3rd week however. They were too many carbs for my <20 gm allotment. 4 weeks later, I had lost 14 lbs. A month later, I've gained back 12 after resuming carbs.

Thats why I hate diets.

I am currently doing the Atkins induction phase thing, trying to break a stall. Last weekend I made a crustless quiche that I could eat during the week. I have been having spinach salads with grilled chicken, tuna salad, and eggs for Breakfast. On the days when I need a really quick Breakfast or lunch, I bought some of the Atkins meal bars, which are actually really tasty. For Snacks, cheese sticks or cucumber slices with ranch. So far it has been fine, having the sleeve on my side helps me stick with it. I'm not weighing until next week, so we will see how it goes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
