Constipation reason?

Recommended Posts

Could it be possible I eat too fast and not breaking down food enough. I cut out cheese and stuff that would cause Constipation but still have it really bad. All the stool softeners don't work, even tried a lot of mineral oil, no results.

Anyone experience this problem with results?

Make sure you're drinking enough liquids...dehydration can make it worse.

Yes, I do drink a lot. Pee all the time, so that part works just fine.

How far out are you? I know I had issues only one day - and I'll be 3 weeks on Tuesday. It was the morning after a day when I was low on fluids. I'd check with your doctor if it continues. There are lots of reasons that could cause it, but you want to make sure you don't have some kind of blockage.

You aren't eating a high volume of food and probably not high Fiber. Have you tried Benefiber or Miralax? My surgeon's office says to take something if it's been 3 days but I wait no longer than 2. I find that now that I drink coffee every day and eat a lot of veggies that I am going every day. Also important to say hydrated, as previously mentioned. Exercise helps keep things going, too.

How far out are you? 3-5weeks? Constipation is something we have all dealt with. It is caused by your diet, lots of Protein with very little or even no Fiber. The best thing you can do is stay hydrated, and when you get to 6 weeks start adding chia seed to your shakes. If it gets unbearable between now & then the best solutions are a suppository stool softener or even a fleet enema.

Here's what works for me. A piece or two if sugar free candy. Especially the Russell Stover chocolate covered caramels. Only take one piece. Works better than any laxative. Its because of the sugar alcohol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
