It hurts a lilt eh wine I do pass gas. Has anyone experiment this ? Does anyone have any suggestions to facilitate going number one an two? I am wondering if I am dehydrated and that's why I can not. Go number one. I was going to get as enema for number two, any suggested?

I am only on my second week pre op liquid diet and have learned stool softener helps. Also, the jellos and broths should help with the dehydration. My wife had the gastric bypass so I have the knowledge of what she went through. My Dr. mentioned salt is ok as well because you will need it... Hope it helps...

It does hurt a little when you pass gas. Normal. I know this is weird, but for me Pickle Juice helped move things and satisfied my craving.

Were you on any liquid preoperative diet? If you have no real food going in it won't be coming out. That was a question I had, too.

It took me a week before I had a BM, the gas hurting I believe because there is a lot, after it starts coming out it gets easier and easier.

It was 8 days after my surgery before I had my first BM. I have struggled with Constipation and gas since my surgery even though I get 64 oz of Fluid a day. Just the way my system is. I did however just learn at my 1 year check that it is perfectly normal to only go twice a week. Stool softeners do help when taken correctly. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids all day but especially in the evening and then take 1-2 Ducosate Sodium softgels at bedtime. Just make sure you DO NOT buy the type of stool softener with added stimulants as they can cause long term problems, dependency and nerve damage to name two. One of my favorite sayings, is "When in doubt, check it out!" You should ALWAYS check with your doctor before taking anything new. We can only tell you what worked for us. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
