2 Weeks Out - Anoyone else struggle with digestive issues?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on March 29th & thankfully all went well. However, late in my second week I noticed that the juices and broths were no longer agreeing with me. I had to run to the bathroom shortly after drinking them.

Yesterday, I began pureed foods with the hope that my digestive issues would end. Unfortunately, I literally have to go to the bathroom after everything i eat & even after I drink Water. I felt discomfort in my intestinal area all day long.

I called the doctor on call at my surgeon's office & went over my symptoms. He said that some rare patients have a reaction to all the fluids & that my system is most likely trying to re-adjust. I'm keeping an eye on it. And I seem to feel a bit better today. Although, I'm still making way more trips to the bathroom than I'd like. The doctor also said I could take some immodium if it continues.

Did anyone else experience a similar issue? Do you have any insight from your personal experience that might help?

Thanks!

Well, that doesn't sound like fun. I hope you get more feedback and feel better very soon. As a sleeve pre-op, I have no experience, but wish you well. Congrats on a successful surgery. Sorry to hear about your uncomfortable digestive issues. It's sound like you and your doc are on top of things, so hopefully it will be resolved soon.

I started having issues with milk/lactose which I never had before. You might want to check what you're eating/drinking...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
