So far it has been way too easy... Should I be scared?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone..,

So I've been thinking about WLS for quite some time now. However, there was always something preventing me from do it. Finally in January '13 I decided it was time to change my life, took a seminar online and scheduled an appointment at the center for weight control at my clinic. Within a week of taking the seminar, I already had a scheduled meeting with my surgeon. DUring our initial meeting, I went prepared with tons of questions (I was determined to get the lap band), but the more I spoke with my surgeon, the more I realized VSG was the right surgery for me. Right after the meeting, he did some labs and scheduled me for a psych and nutrition consult, as well as an ekg and a swallowing test. All of this appointments were in March. I met with him two weeks ago, everything came back great. Now I have another appointment next week with the psychiatrist and nutrionist to check, and meet again with my surgeo on the 24th. I don't know if I am crazy, but I am under the impression that by then we will submit my paperwork for insurance and scheduled my surgery date.

Is this normal?? I mean I am a little scared that after reading many blogs things have been quite smooth for me. Should I be scared???

Mine went very smooth with the hospital and surgeon I went with and the bariactric clinic. Everyone's journey is unique and some are much easier than others. Consider yourself blessed and that it is meant to happen. That is what I figured. Even the insurance did not take that long and then it was real. I count myself very fortunate and feel for those less so. It is not a bad sign.

My experience was relatively fine as well. I vomited a fair amount but other than that, no problems and even vomiting didn't scare me. You are very fortunate to be having a decent go of it.

It really is this easy! My surgery is in 3 weeks. I was approved within the same week my documents were presented. Right now, it still seems surreal, until I'm being wheeled into the OR. I can't wait for my surgery and good luck with your journey!

It does sound like everything has gone smooth for you, which is great! I can't complain either, I went to a seminar Feb 28th & subsequently have done everything but have my required exercise class & I do have that schedule, as well as my meeting with the surgeon coming up April 26th. I'm a bit nervous that things are moving along so fast, but I didn't have to get approval from my health insurance, as it's a covered benefit. I think that's the part that's a major hold up for most people.

Unfortunately for me, my required exercise class doesn't happen until 10 days after my surgeon meeting so I've been told that the surgeon may not schedule my surgery until he knows that I've completed the exercise training class. (I had the appt schedule but something came up & had to reschedule so hoping it won't hurt my chances of getting a summer surgery date.)

Everything happens for a reason, so good luck to you! Hope everything keeps moving along for you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
