Depression 6 months after sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had issues with depression after the sleeve? I had been feeling pretty good but the last week or so have had such sadness and feel very overwhelmed. I haven't had anything (that I can think of) happen that would put me in this state of mind. Not sure what is going on. I am proud of my weight loss so far. 90 lbs!! But this is for the birds....

This is a big change in life, I suffer from depression before the sleeve, it is one of the worst things ever, one thing I can maybe advise is go out!!!! Spend time with a good friend and try to get your mind back on track, fresh air can really help, good luck

I'm 3months out and I have recently been feeling blue for no reason. Everything is great in my life and yet lately any little thing can make me feel sad. I thought that only happened in the first or second month. I just try to put myself in a happy mood. I try not to dwell on sad things. I have to say also that it takes very little for me to cry lately and I'm not normally a crier. I just figure my body is hormonally challenged for probably this first year or til I hit goal and my hormones calm down.

Thanks for the replies. It probably is hormonal and with the changes our bodies have gone thru. I just thought I wouldn't be depressed this far out. Especially with feeling better about myself since the weight loss. I know I will get past it. Hopefully just a phase....

Our minds have to "catch-up" with our bodies. I think we all experience "mental stalls" - yes, even me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
