I totally get why a bypass patient would get so sick from sugar but why us too? I mean we just had our stomachs down-sized as opposed to complety blocked off. I had a bite of cheesecake at my jewelry party lastnight and it made me so incredibly nauseous and sweaty. NEVER again.

It happens to me too but not specifically with sugar. Some sweets give me the same feeling as you and others are fine. But some non-sweet food will give me the same reaction. Food from restaurants doesn't sit well at all.

I can tell you a little bit of why you experience the symptoms you described based on what I have read in the past. I take zero responsibility for its accuracy. :)

Pre sleeve much of the sugar, or fat for that matter, is churned with gastric juices in the stomach, essentially neutralizing it for better nutritional processing in the intestines. It is also a controlled release. The stomach churns food about 3 times a minute until the food is ready to be released into the intestines.

Post op, the stomach no longer is able to perform this preprocessing step of churning (as 75% is cut out), and as a consequence, a lot of sugar or fat is dumped directly into the intestines. The intestines are not prepared to handle the blast of sugar or fat and causes reactions around the body such as sweating, increased heart rate, GI tract spasms, etc. It is your body having an adverse reaction to the sugar. Not fatal, but uncomfortable for sure. Some may say this is dumping for us sleevers.

That is my bro-science response and I do not know if it is 100% accurate. Use your own judgement.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
