Hi there! I will be having surgery with him the last week of May. During Spring break I went to Reynosa to check out the office and hospital. It was VERY nice. Im getting a bit nervous about the surgery. There are not a lot of comments on here that speak of Dr. Cantu. I chose him because a family member had surgery with him several years ago. She had no complications at all. When is your surgery?

Keep me posted on how it goes. Are you getting the preop requirements done here or in Reynosa? My aunt and her daughter both had it done by Dr. Cantu. They look awesome. Do you have someone going with you? Have you met him yet? What made you choose him? Just curious. I had never heard of him until I asked my aunt who her doctor was.

I am having Pre-op done with Dr. Cantu. have not met him yet; but have had several phone conversations with Lupita. I am going alone because we take care of MR adults and have to have coverage to be gone. My husband will have to stay behind. I found him doing an internet search for Texas border town bariatric surgeons. I wanted to drive there and be close enough for my husband to get to me if something happened.

I see. I believe you will do fine. Driving back might be a bit of a challenge. I had the lapband several years ago and I learned fast that we use stomach muscles to do the simplist of things. I was able to drive without pain about t days after surgery. Do you live far/close to Reynosa?

I am a special education facilitator at a high school. We talk about transition in ARDs all the time. Kuddos to you and your husband.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
