Am I drinking too much?

Recommended Posts

Just sleeved 4/9/13, (so today will be day 4 by the calendar, or day 3 as the doc counts from first day home) and I'm worried I am drinking too much or too fast.

I'm on Clear Liquids only, and my doc's info sheets say to try for 10oz every 4 hours at first, but I'm finding I can do 10oz in under an hour, sometimes in 30 minutes! No nausea, sometimes a little cramping. No problems getting in Protein, and yesterday I took in over 70oz Fluid total.

Is this going to cause a problem?

My doctor practically did cartwheels down the hall when he counted my cups and determined that I drank over 80 ounces my first day after surgery. I could drink about 2-3 ounces every few minutes with no issues.

I'm now four weeks out and I can down a 16 ounce bottle of Water in four drinks spaced out over about an hour. (each drink is about four or five consecutive swallows) This is my normal Water drinking pace even before being sleeved so I don't feel any desire to be any faster than this and it allows for excellent hydration even when sweating.

We are sooooo fortunate that drinking came easy to us. I saw patients in the hospital struggling to drink even a tablespoon of fluid... I felt almost guilty to be pounding back the fluids soo greedily.

Oh thanks, that makes me feel so much better! I ride horses, and my biggest fear was not being able to drink enough to stay hydrated while riding in the summer. 16 oz in an hour would definitely help prevent heat stress!

I do feel lucky that I haven't had problems drinking. In fact, except for these four incisions and the lack of hunger, I feel no different than before surgery! It's almost a little freaky.

Yaya

wow - you are drinking so much???

OMG you are such a lush!!!

ohhhhh, you mean your just drinking lots of Water???

thats ok then!!!!

maybe.........you might be cramping on an occassion though cuz you did drink something too fast????

but if "this" cramping is very infrequent - then don't listen to what i just said

not getting nauseous???

doc is pleased, and says no prob with how much and how fast - you are drinking

don't look for trouble!!!! :o

I think we all feel bad when we see other sleevers suffer with problems concerning eating, drinking, gas et al :(

you didn't have any problems - how great is that!!!! :)

the fact that others unfortunately have/had problems shouldn't "cloud" your happiness, success!!!

enjoy the start of your healthier, happier, longer life with the help of your new best friend, the sleeve!!!!

continued good luck during recovery :)

I was one of the ones following surgery that struggled to get even a tiny sip down so you are very lucky. The more fluids you can drink the better! I'm 3 weeks out now and can only get probably 30-35 oz. down.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
