Is anyone juicing rather than buying packaged shakes? Is it okay post surgery?

I specifically asked my doctor this same question. I can juice fresh vegetable juices and have citrus after six weeks. I'm a huge fan of juicing and prior to surgery enjoyed at least one green juice just about every day.

I can have fresh apple or other fruit juices except citrus or pineapple at any time, but I don't believe in straight fruit juice since it's a LOT of sugar so I'm not having any fruit juices and I'm just waiting until I can start with my regular green juices again.

BTW, I used about an inch of ginger in my daily juices preop and I had a fabulous recovery and virtually no inflammation in my sleeve. Could just be good luck, or could be that I had drenched my body in ginger and other anti-inflammatory juices for many months prior to surgery.

Lastly, I wouldn't rely on juice as a complete substitute for Protein shakes, although you can get a lot of Protein from certain vegetables it is HARD to get enough to replace a shake. Even when I did a 30 day juice fast I was only getting around 60 grams of protein a day.. and I was drinking a LOT of juice. Maybe you could make a juice and add half a scoop of Protein powder?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
