Side eefect of surgery or am i getting sick ? please read and comment thanks

Recommended Posts

hi i was sleeved on 01/29/13. down almost 80lbs (20 was pre-op)

moving on...

i feel so weak and tired. i mean raising my arms to wash my hair takes a lot out of me.

did labs a week ago and everything was normal.

am i over tired? is this normal? i've been walking at the gym but havent touched weights yet.

should i increase my exercise and start lifting again?

before surgery i was a bull. i mean i was lifting 35lb dumbells without an issue. now i feel like i would struggle with 5lbs.

my 25lbs daughter seems as if im lifting a fridge.

is this normal?

should i increase my Protein and start lifting?

or maybe its all in my head and im just getting sick.

it's almost like flu-like symptoms.

ugh hope this passes. in the meantime ill increase my Water and protein like advised from previous posts.

thanks in advance for your input

Is this since your surgery or just recently? If its just recently, I would say flu but if it's been awhile you need to be checked again.

Increasing your Water is always good but on a normal day are you hydrated enough? Before the increase, how much water are you consuming?

Getting your 64 should not make you dehydrated but increasing never hurts. If you are getting at least 50-60 grams of Protein per day as well, I would think you are sick. Flu is one thing that comes to mind but now maybe bladder, kidney infection, uniary infection??? if it hurts to lift your arms.

Would most certainly have it checked out, infection of some sort is screaming in my head but probably the mom in me.

I hope you feel better soon, you should have tons of energy.

Having been weak and unable to move, where getting out of bed is a struggle I'd take a look at your Protein (Since your lab work was good). Minimum 60g a day, spread out thru the day. Can't eat it all in one sitting with a Protein Shake containing 50g. Water intake a minimum of 64 ounces. My rules are 60 g of protein, 64 ounces of water, and less then 40g of carbs,(almost impossible lol). I wouldn't start any more exercises until you know for sure what is going on...and to be safe I'd also be talking to your doctor...but I;m guessing they will want to know what your diet consists of, water intake, sleep schedule

And congrats on 80 pounds!!! Thats amazing!!!

@Jennabelle I am weak but i can get out of bed and i can move. i just feel sore like i just worked out. does that make sense? I'm not in physical pain or anything just sore like i said. I am a little stuffed up nasally and sometimes my nose is runny and sometimes i cough up phlem but rarely. thats why i think i'm sick/getting sick. i think if im not better by monday ill call my doctor.

I think calling your doctor is a good idea. Sounds more flu like then diet related if their is pleghm and runny noses. My motto is better safe then sorry...although there might not be much then can do for you if its the flu. Plenty of rest and fluids!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
