Honestly, I quit cigarettes and used ecigs about 2 months before surgery. I didn't use any nicotine for 24 hours before any of my pre-op tests. I stayed clean for a few weeks following surgery, not even ecigs, but slipped back into smoking. My mom lives with me and is a life-time smoker, so it's always around. Seven months out, still smoking, haven't noticed any ill effects. I know I need to quit, I'm not advocating it. I also am genetically pretty tough stomach-wise...no intolerances or ulcerations pre-op. It's a gamble, there are consequences beyond the GI tract, but we are all adults here and we decide what kind of life we live.

I was sleeved on 12/29 & I smoke. The only issue I had at first was the access air going to my stomach. After I finished, I would be really gassy. After a mth I was back to normal although my tolerance has decreased.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
