Eating normally

Recommended Posts

Ever since having my op within a month I could eat everything I could before chicken, beef bread etc just smaller amounts. I don't understand how people say they can't tolerate it when I could very strange.

I'm the same, maybe we pushed to soon, maybe we have been naughty? That's all I can tell myself, cause I'm still meant to be eating puree but I'm fine as long as I chew! I don't understand, just hope I haven't stuffed anything up!!

Just make sure you are putting dense Protein in first, veggies second and good carbs third. I would really try to stay away from bread products because they become gummie and doughie in your new sleeve. They are not to good for you.

I was told the same. My dietician said as long as we chew well I'm two months plus was sleeved feb 5 and I eat drink well I need to increase Protein because I forget and carbs are always more than I like but I see this as a slow learning curve and I am losing weight so far 3 stone and I feel so much better.

Thats great. Just remember all bad carbs are gonna go down very easy. Dense Protein will not. Make sure your protein is not dry either or it will be very hard to swallow and kind of feel like a rock in your stomache. Always pace yourself when eating and when you start to feel full stop. Keep up the great work it will pay off.

We are all different. I also think we heal at different rates. I can tolerate pretty much anything, but don't eat bread, rice, or Pasta per my prescribed plan. I can have that at 4 months, and can't have steak till 6 months. I've had a little bread or pasta here or there, and no problem. Just follow your plan, and weigh and measure your food. As someone said to me, just because you can, doesn't mean you should :) It is a new learning curve for us all!

Meh, I've been so fortunate as to be able to tolerate EVERYTHING I've put in my belly.... I drank 80 ounces of Water the day after surgery and at 4 weeks out I am eating generous portions (1/2 cup satisfies me.. I definitely could eat more but I feel satisfied with 1/2 cup so that's how much I measure for myself)

The only things I haven't had yet are hard fruits, Breads, seeds and citrus. The breads, I'm not going to eat because I don't eat wheat and wheat free alternatives are loaded with high glycemic junk and the seeds and citrus are listed for introduction week 6 so I'm waiting for that.

I recognize that I've been very fortunate in my recovery and my tolerance. I've always had an Iron stomach, so I guess I also have an Iron sleeve! I never had much inflammation and I've never slimed or thrown up since surgery. I'm THRILLED that I've been fortunate but I DEFINITELY understand that not everyone is so fortunate. There are some who struggle to even take in Water early on. There are some who become lactose intolerant. There are some who just have a sensitive sleeve that won't tolerate certain things until months and months later. We're all different and going to have different recoveries.

I guess I have an Iron sleeve too. A month out and I'm tolerating 95% of everything I've tried. The only things left on the list are steak and salad. I'm planning on trying the salad today. I can't eat very much but can at least eat most anything I want.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
