Ok... Had my first preop Dr. Apt yesterday and while I was happy that iv lost weight (10lbs in 2 weeks since surg) I'm not ecstatic about it. I expected more since I was on liquids for 2 solid weeks. My NUT and Dr said I probably would have lost more, but I'm not getting nearly enough calories in. So basically my body has shut down and is refusing to lose at a more rapid pace because I'm only able to get in 300-500 cal a day. AND to top it off, my doc said no gym until I get my caloric intake up. WTH :(

So I guess my real question is, can anyone suggest high calorie meals that's aren't huge? NUT said it looks like I have a very tight sleeve, so it will be harder for me.

Right now I can only consume about 1/2 an egg or 4 bites of cream of wheat or 1/4 a yogurt cup. Obviously not much at all. I'm just scared that if I don't start being able to consume more that my weight loss will not progress. I'm ready to get in the gym. I was sleeve as a tool, not to have it as a crutch.

I feel ya. I have to do a lot of small meals. I also add yogurt and fruit to my Protein smoothies to get more calories.

What about Protein Powder to Greek yogurt? Or the Peanut Butter powder to add to foods. Hope all goes well.

Cottage cheese, cream Soups, add the Unjury unflavored Protein powder. Peanut Butter powder is a great idea. Even though you can only eat small portions, instead of 6 small meals a day, increase to 8 or 10.

I usually eat Greek yogurt as my mid morning snack but I can only eat 1/4-1/2 at most and I'm forcing it with 1/2. And even at that in the entire cup of yogurt there is only 80cals. I'm going to buy some unflavored Protein powder tomorrow and I'm just going to have to add it to everything that goes in my mouth I guess :(

I haven't tried the unflavored Protein powder yet, but will be getting the Unjury brand. After researching, it appears to be one of the only kinds that does not clump and can be added to hot or cold liquids. After surgery I had the unflavored protein powder in raspberry crystal lite. It was so good! I know it sounds gross, but what about baby food meats? ?

Have you tried string cheese?

Have not tried string cheese because I was just upgraded today to puréed foods. I don't think I can do string cheese yet, but the NUT said laughing cow cheese. Basically anything I can push down on and squeeze thru a fork is acceptable.

I had a similar experience 3 weeks out. So, I would eat smalller meals throughout the day. What helped me a lot was to start a journal, and I would write down my proposed meal plan for the next day , calculating all the Protein grams and calories in advance. I try to follow the plan as closely as possible, but I don't always get everything in. I would do then note the day real intake, and start modifying the next day plan to based on what I can eat more of. This keeps me on track, and no wondering what to eat throughout the day, so I can focus on work. The calories will start going up, and you will feel better soon!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
