I'm so overwhelmed right now. I had my 1st week postoperative visit and I ended up in the ER for dehydration/ exhaustion. So folks this is serious. Please whatever you do drink your required fluids. I had been having issues with discomfort and also fear of drinking too much at once. Which is what eventually led to my dehydration. So please take care of yourself. Also because of this my surgeon has me on Clear liquids too. I cannot advance to the next phase. :-(

I never ended up in the ER, but that was my fear!!! For the first three months I had a horrible time trying to get enough Water. (BTW, they told me that sugar free Jello counts as 'liquid') At my three month visit my nurse said just DRINK, avoid anything with sugar! I asked about coffee and iced tea, and although that is not what they want us drinking a lot of, she said JUST DRINK!!! Since then, I'm fine. I drink Water, coffee and iced tea and am able to get plenty. She saved me, I'm sure of it. :) It's been almost 3 years and I STILL watch the color of the water in the toilet!! Good luck, it does get easier!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
