Hello and thank you to all VSG members - April 3rd Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone -

Started my research into weightloss surgery about a year and half ago and with much hemming and hawling and a ton of backing and forthing and a little bit of yes then no, I had my surgery on April 3rd of 2013. So, I am currently a week out and quite happy with the decision I made. The first few days where pretty bad but every day scince it has been better and better. As of today I feel pretty much back to normal, not bad for major surgery!!

I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all who bravely post their stories on this site. I never said anything on the forums until today and just lurked for quite a while and though I did not actively participate it was without a doubt indispensiable and without being able to read real and honest stories I am not sure I ever would have been able to make the final decision to go ahead with it. So, thank you all and I hope to do the same in some small way now that I am through the other side of the proverbial looking glass. ;)

I was on stealth mode too! As I started to consider this more and more I started posting and watching YouTube video blogs. This has by far has been an amazing tool to help manage expectations. (I think? I'm still in the approval phase - and scared out of my mind)

Oh that so resonates with me. I went back and forth so many times before surgery I made myself dizzy. I will not lie, as they were starting the IV and doing the prep for my surgery, I think a dozen times at least I had to almost bite my tongue to stop myself from saying ... " You know what I am good and this was fun but, I am just gonna go on home now"

I was very very scared, scared of the surgery itself, scared of the changes I knew I would have to make, scared it would not work. For me the only thing that stayed my tongue in the end that I was more scared of staying scared then I was of the surgery if that makes any kind of sense.

As I was going through my decision making process, I realized that for me a big part of how I got to where I was, was a thousand little broken promises to myself, I am sure you know the ones I mean, " This week I will start going to the gym or I am going to cut back on my carbs starting today, ect ect ... and then you don't do it and its another broken promise and it all adds up, it did for me anyway.

Now though, I keep a big promise to myself and with the tool I have now I am keeping those promises one day at time and it feels pretty good. I am fairly certain it will for you too!

Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
