Is it something they don't see until they're in there? Can it been seen by an endoscopy? What are the symptoms? I've had a lot of gastro issues for about 10 years and no one can pin point the issue. Wondering if maybe it's a hernia that's been unseen.

you can definitely see a hernia with an endoscopy, that how my hiatal hernia was diagnosed anyway.

I didn't know I had a hiatal hernia until my surgeon was performing the sleeve. He fixed it while in there. I had no clue.

Did you have symptoms that's you wrote off as something else that was really caused by the hernia?

I had heartburn that I wrote off to being obese and eating greasy foods, but didn't have heartburn everyday or couldn't sleep because it was so bad. My surgeon said it was huge and I could have had it since birth.

Oh ok, because I've had chronic heartburn, diarrhea and gas for over 10 years. All tests come back fine and normal

I though maybe it could be a hernia that's been missed

It could be. Have you already had surgery?

No I'm pre op. I've had csections, but obviously they wouldn't see it then.

You can bring it up with your surgeon or with the weight loss staff. If it is a hernia, they'll be able to see it when they are in there. Good luck!

You probably have IBS. It causes all those symptoms. There's no test for it they basically diagnose you with it by ruling other stuff out. I've had it since I was 12.

That's the age I got it. I had an ulcer when I was 11, these symptoms started shortly after. Are there meds to manage it? I've tried almost all ppi's on the market and none work -_-

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
