Does anyone who has ever gotten this surgery have or had any regrets after getting it done. I am starting to feel like maybe this wasn't the right thing to do. I have lost weight which is an exciting thing cause losing weight was always a struggle for me but the way I feel is something I wasn't expecting. I feel sick all the time. I have no energy. I have no hunger or thirst whatsoever! I can't even drink a cup of Water without feeling like crap. I am getting less than 500 calories a day and I am getting less than 50 grams of Protein but what else can I do if I am not thirsty or hungry. Do I have to get protein injections?? I am taking all my Multivitamins on time everyday but I still feel like crap. I am not the same person I was before surgery. It's starting to show at work. I use to have all kinds of energy and now I can't go 4 hours without feeling so exhausted. I know this is gonna sound bad but I wish I was hungry and not just regular hungry but MAD HUNGRY cause being diabetic and not eating is starting to take its toll on me. What to do? Any advice would be much appreciated thanks :)

I sometimes think I might regret this (my surgery is Monday) because I really do love eating and I'm afraid that this surgery will change not only how I interact with food, but how I interact with people. But I have to keep telling myself that no matter what I'm feeling (I'm know to be a little emotional), that this surgery is going to save my life. It's going to give me a better chance at growing old with my husband, to travel without having to worry about weight restrictions, and to maybe one day soon have the baby I have so desperately been wanting. I have post-it notes around my house, in places where I frequent, telling me to stay strong and that I can do this.

It can get a bit depressing sometimes. I usualy looked back on all the struggles I have had all my life with weight-loss and remember it will get better day by day. Your energy may be zapped due to not enough Fluid intake . try to spice things up drink gatorade, Powerade, iced tea, crystal light you have to find something you like to drink. My favorite for a while was powerade then i got sick of it and now am drinking lipton iced tea. Hang in there you are strong and this difficult time will pass. Make sure you are getting in enough Iron and add B12 for energy. I have a iron pill that combines vit c iron b12 in one. When I don't take it I feel like a zombie! It will be worth it in the end try to stay positive you can do this :)

I'm so sorry you are struggling. Unless it is making you sick to drink or eat, you have to. Even if you are not hungry, get on a schedule and try to get the most Protein in the smallest portions if need be. Drink all day long, find something you enjoy or at least can tolerate and keep at it, hopefully a few solid days can get your energy up. Dehydration is not something you want to battle, and it sounds like you have some of the symptoms. I'm 4 months out and dont' feel hungry, I eat to live not live to eat now, I hope that lasts!

Please try to get your nourishment in. Keep us posted.

How far out are you? Regrets I think are normal in the beginning. It takes time getting used to this surgery and all it comes with. Your body goes thru a lot and you are trying to figure things out still. I know I still have times when I'm not hungry (never hungry for breakfast) but you have to make yourself eat. Are you on solids yet? I started to feel better when I could eat solid food again. Luckily I haven't had a problem with Water but that's another thing you have got to make yourself do. You don't want to dehydrate yourself and cause other problems. What's done is done and you can't go back. All you can do now is embrace this and keep doing your best :) getting in your Protein will help give you energy so that might be part if your issue with feeling tired. I feel better the further out from surgery I get and I hope you do as well!

Get over the thought that food needs to be enjoyed take it like pills something you have to do weather you want to or not. You're adult enough to have surgery than be adult enough to do what you need.

I am 4 weeks post op and I have kept myself on pureed food cause I am a little hesitant about eating anything else. I am afraid to eat and drink. Is this normal? I am taking all my meds and Vitamins but food and Water is scaring the hell out of me. Someone told me to drink Gatorade or something besides water but water isn't the issue. It's the want that I don't have. If that makes any sense

Don't be scared! If you are cleared, start eating solid foods! I'm betting you will start feeling better when you do. You will be able to get in more Protein and have more energy.

The want may not be there but to stay healthy we just have to make ourselves do what we gotta do. I really think you'll feel better once you start eating solid foods. You get to chew again and that in itself makes you feel more "normal". Good luck!

you need to drink, the dehydration can cause no energy. I had that in the beginning and it was awful! Also, make sure you are taking your Iron supplement.

solid food is the best stage! Enjoy it, find some new recipes and get excited to try them, we are going into the summer months, enjoy grilled foods, fresh fruits and veggies and all that summer offers.

Try GenesisToday Liquid Protein 100. One 1 oz. shot is 15 gm. of Protein and you can take a shot in the morning, lunch and dinner for 45 gms. Then you can add other things like try to drink a Premier Protein Meal Replacement shake - 30 gms. protein. My doctor and nurse said mix it up. I am starting my 4th week and just started eating soft solid foods. Can't eat much but it's yummy! Good luck!

I had such a tough time drinking. It was like it was taking forever to get drinks down. I did go to drinking tea and stuff soon. As for food I was so scared....I started mash potatoes soft foods...sounds crazy but even like a cheese puff cheeto dissolving in my mouth at first. It was like a baby learning texture again Just go slow. ..don't jump into steak lol

It is understandable to be nervous about progressing your diet, and also normal to some to not feel hungry. But don't let fear of what "might" happen to sabotage you. We need to progress our diets, our bodies have to adapt, we'll get better nutrition and overall better health. You can do it, you have to do it. You dont' want to stay on the pureed too long, it will be harder getting off them. Just go slow and be aware that some foods might not sit as well as others. Eat slowly, chew your food really well.

Work the steps your NUT laid out, you'll succeed!

I was still tired and sluggish up to 5-6 Weeks out.

Don't be scared, eat some food! Its all good and don't let food or this surgery define you. my social life has not changed on bit. I go to bars, restaurants, partys all like I used to, but now instead of worrying about the food and drinks I actually have conversations with people!

good luck and give it some time. I'm a little over 2 months out and have no regrets.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
