losing 1\2 lb a day 5 months out. is that normal?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone I'm getting kind of concerned. For the last couple of weeks I have drastically been losing weight very quickly. Almost 1\2 lb a day. I did start a walking program, but don't do it everyday. In fact I haven't walked since last saturday. I do have new hours at work, so I am doing more at home, but that would be the only changes I have made. food and Water intake are all the same. I was losing about 1\2 a lb a week for a couple of months. Is my body just catching up? My sister says not to worry until I hit 120 lbs. LOL I'm never going to hit that, she was just joking. Should I be concerned???

That seems rather drastic. Have you called your doctor to discuss? I would want to at least get some labs drawn!

How much do you weigh now? The more you weigh the more you lose in shorter time.

Ive been stuck on 185 (im 4'9 so have a long way to go) for the past 5 weeks so i would love to lose 12 pounds a day but i can see your concern.

I think a half a pound (1/2) a day is what she means

Yes it is a half a pound a day. I thought that is what I put. Sorry of I didn't. I do feel good though. When I had my labs done last month all was good just a little low in vit D, but I am taking more now.

Phew, I was like... So you lost 100+ lbs in 2 weeks? YES BE CONCERNED! Lol.

I wouldn't worry about half pound a day. You're still relatively new post op and the human body does crazy things. What would be worthwhile is logging Fluid and food intake. Then you'll have some data that might help you figure out what is going on.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
