Looks like there are a few of every option = a lot of pain, a little pain, no pain... I can honestly tell you that I felt no pain at all after surgery. I felt the gas a little bit but it was no biggie. They gave me some pain medicine the 1st day of surgery but I didn't really need it. I just slept good that night:) I never needed so much as a Tylenol on the 2nd day and thereafter. I wasn't thrilled with the incisions. I had stitches until day 10 and then they came out. They were itchy after that and I babied them for 2 solid weeks. They are almost completely healed now. But my displeasure with incisions still didn't qualify as pain. Hopefully you'll have an easy time of it as well.

Aww...poor thing, I don't really have a high tolerance for pain, that's why i was so curious. Did u have the laparoscopic?

Yes, it was done lap. The swelling has been pretty intense, I didn't get in more than 3oz Water during my hospital stay, I was shocked they let me go home. When I would sip, the Water would just sit there, feeling like a monster was trying to crawl out of my chest. Taking the liquid pain meds was the worst, because I couldn't sip it, it had to be taken like a shot (because the taste was so vile and I was so nauseous).

I'm six days post op now and still in pain for much of the day. The last two days have been exponentially better than the first five, though! I was regretting surgery based on how much pain I was in. Now I can see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I attribute feeling better to the fact that I "cheated" on my post op diet instructions, which called for no Protein till day 8. But I was so weak, nauseous and no improvement for days. I drank half of a Protein shake yesterday and started to feel better within an hour. It was like night and day.

Well, that's a little comforting to hear, thanks guys!!! Are u allowed to take gas relief immediately after surgery???

I had very little discomfort. No actual pain, thankfully. It felt like I did a ton of situps, and I was a little tender. I found the Tylenol worked better for me than anything else, a heating pad helped also. Some gas, but honestly, immediately after surgery the gas is within your body, so the meds don't do too much. Walking was the best for this, the more you walk, the better you will feel. I think it is important to hear all the experiences it give you a full picture of what could happen.

I had very little pain also. Just felt like I got kicked in the stomach or did a bunch of sit-ups. The gas pains do suck. Feels like you need to fart pretty bad but you can't. I didn't use gas x strips and some ppl will tell you they work great. I used a heating pad (which worked awesome) and did a lot of walking which helps too! After day 3 I was good to go with discomfort and no more gas pain.

Gas X strips do not help with the gas inserted in your tummy for surgery...only walking will help get it out! But, they ARE amazing for the gas we get in our tummy! For me, that didn't come until after I was home a couple of days.

I was sleeved Tuesday, and only two of my incision sites kind of "sting", but they take turns, they don't both hurt at the same time.

Yes, sitting down/standing up and getting in/out of bed hurt for a sec, but once you are in position, it goes away.

The gas pains in the shoulders are the biggest pain, but even that is not bad.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
