Beach Lover 1,084 Posted September 9, 2013 Mine was a 36 and I can only do about 4oz on a good day at 3 months post op. Studies show that your size of bougie doesn't make a difference on the weight loss. My doctor doesn't like to do them smaller because he feels they cause more complications. I think whether you have a 32 or 40 it is all up to you on how you handle your diet and exercise to maximize your weight loss. 1 No game reacted to this
ckunes 23 Posted September 10, 2013 Yes Lara, I spoke with him at length at my 9 month visit. He did my sleeve bigger due to achalasia and on the recommendation of my gastroenterologist. He says I still should be loosing even with the larger sleeve. I must admit my compliance to eating the right foods has waned. I started looking better, and got compliments and I got sloppy with my food choices. All I can do is Water aerobics due to bilateral knee replacements, and back and neck severe arthritis. I'm a retired nurse , almost 66 years old . He did want me to have a bypass but I didn't want all the problems that went with that. I will be at his goal with another 40 lb weight loss. I hope I can get back on track and get it off and keep it off. To repeat again I dont feel like I had any surgery at all !
Fiddleman 4,376 Posted September 10, 2013 Fiddlemen: You may if you felt little difference and are gaining. Yes, I think that is a legitimate concern. My only point above was bougie size is information the surgeon's team never revealed in all the post op meetings. Nor did I find out a goal weight (I chose what made sense - center of normal BMI). Just remember how bad you wanted this, and the sacrifices you made to have it. At the end of the day it's still hard work for all of us! I hate to use the word tool (I really really do) But at the end of the day all forms of bariatric surgery are only tools. We have to work with them for the rest of our lives to take AND keep the weight off. It is in your power and my power to succeed or fail. And along with compliance we need to look at another word "complacency" I know that losing a little weight and feeling better can be a trap! I too have had moments were I'm like ummm... Feeling pretty good maybe I can just slack off for a while... We really can't afford to be complacent. The fact of the matter is we have to work on this everyday. We will never be "done" we will always have the propensity to gain easily. We have to make and stick with major changes to our intake. sanks51 214 Posted September 11, 2013 I too have no idea what size bougie my Dr used. I'm not sure knowing what size yours was has anymore of an impact on your weightloss. For me it's just another unnecessary thing to obsess over. We are all so different and unique in our pre op and post op experiences. There is no 'one size fits all' on this VSG journey. I say just embrace your journey with whatever you have and go for it.
danaevett 179 Posted September 11, 2013 I am currently pre-op and I think someone used a 196FR bougie on me. I could eat a chubby piglet. Lol 1 1gorgeousgodzilla reacted to this
