Over 3 months out and skin issues..

Recommended Posts

Looks like I'll definitely be having loose skin issues.. I'm 3 months and a week or so out... I can already tell it in my inner thighs/butt/arms and some dimpling in my lower stomach... was terrified of this. Looks like I'll be having plastic work when it's all said and done, but that scares me worse than this surgery did.

Anyone else having issues with loose/dimpling skin this soon? I'm down close to 60lbs but have 60 more to go... that's what worries me.

Protein, protein, protein......gym, gym, gym.... Best way to prevent some of the dimpling and loose skin, but no way to completely stop it. I have some as well, especially my legs....all part if the process :-(.

I always knew I'd have lose skin. Just my genetics. I feel you. I would still rather be healthy, active and thin though.

Im a bit further out - coming up on 11 months out and do have some loose skin as well - if you look at my ticker, I've lost a healthy sized person, and have been heavy quite a while so I knew I would probably have some. I am not at goal, so I will probably have more skin when I get there.

One thing I have noticed, and other folks might agree - is that is does get a bit better as time goes by. It seemed worse a few months ago, and looks better now. I am doing my best to get all my Protein and follow nutritionists orders, taking my Vitamins, getting a lot more exercise now, etc.

Plastics - or rather the idea of recovering from they types of surgery they do for my loosey goosey areas (circumferential body lift/adbominoplasty, inner thigh surgery) is horrifying to me and waaaay scarier than the bariatric surgery - I am with ya on that one!

I'm only 1/3 of my way into my journey and my belly and thighs are already starting to be wrinkly. some people just have more elastic skin than others.. Sine I was well over 300 pounds and have been obese for 40 years, I knew I'd for sure need plastics so there's no wondering for me... For you there might still be hope.. the skin sometimes will retract a bit after a year or so.

Holy cow I thought I was doing great getting my 60 in. You drinking extra shakes?

My biggest fear is plastic surgery. If I could do it without the drain tubes it wouldn't bother me but they make my stomache turn!

I'm 20 months out and I have to agree it does get better with time! I virtually have no loose skin, but after I lost 50 pounds in the first 3 months I resembled a shar pei. ..... I must add did have a very modest weight loss goal and I was sleeved at 28. Don't worry, wait and see. After rapid weight loss periods your skin needs time to catch up. Keep up the good work!

I read that it can take up to two years for your skin to fit to your new body... It's also important to keep hydrated, use Vitamin E oil, exfoliating skin daily will help promote circulation to the skin which is said to help as well! Just give it some time! :)

Glad to hear the skin may take time to catch up. I think I will take quite a while to decide if I will need any plastics, other than boobs. Not sure I can live without them and I know they will be the first thing to go. I am scared to get plastics done too.

I'm only 6 wk out but my grind who had the surgery years ago gave me this advice. She lost 85 pounds and was told I wait 2 years after before having plastic surgery. During that time she was told to work out as much as possible, get 80 Protein in daily, moisturize like crazy and drink tons of Water. She noticed after her 6mn mark her super saggy skin for better then better again at the 1 1/2 year mark. After 5 years she had plastic surgery to remove all the extra skin. She said it was a lot more painful than the actual sleeve and recovery was a lot worse. She advised me to not consider anything until I hit that 2 year mark. Then think about it-hard. In her opinion she would advise not to but it depends on you. No one ca make a choice like that for you but be aware it will not be a walk in the park.

At 19 I would think you still have lots of elasticity in your skin still! As we get older and the longer we are heavy the elasticity is just not as good. If you've lost 75lbs and are not seeing lose skin that's awesome! Soooo jealous! ;)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
