Hi everyone, my name is Gena and I'm in North Carolina. I'm 40 years old and I'm the proud mom of 7. My oldest is 27 and My baby is 7. I've been looking around this site for a few weeks after I found it doing research on the sleeve gastrectomy. I started my journey in February of this year and I got my approval today. My surgery is scheduled for April 25th. I've been overweight most of my life and I'm at my highest 316. I have a few health issues I hope will get better with losing weight as well as my self esteem improving. I love this site. I see there are some positive helpful people here and I look forward to taking the journey with all of you!

Hi Gena. Congratulations to you. Get ready for your journey. I'm 3 weeks post op so I'm still a baby to this but my experience has been wonderful. Before surgery I would take three pills a day, now I'm down to 1 in such a short time and I'm hoping my dr. takes me off if it as well. So it'll definitely be worth coming off your meds in addition to becoming healthier and loosing weight. Well I wish you nothing but the best and stay in touch and let me know your progress.

Thanks guys...I see that this site is gonna help me make it through what I think is going to be a very eventful journey. It's good to know there is a forum out here where we can share and help each other because I don't know too many people personally that have had this type of surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
