nine months post op and living life!

Recommended Posts

Today I had my month 9 follow up with the WLS Center.

Here are some of the key results:

Height: 5'11"

July 2nd, 2012

Weight: 360 lb

BP: 148 / 102

SP02: 98%

Pulse: 64

BMI: 46

Body Fat %: 37%

Pant Size: 46

April 9, 2013

Weight: 182

BP: 110 / 71

SP02: 99%

Pulse: 44 <~~~~~~~~

BMI: 26

Body Fat %: 20%

pant size: 32

It has been quite the experience. In a good way. My life is so much fuller now and I really enjoy staying active and making good nutrition decisions.

The nurse gave me a "gold star". Happy dance. YAY!

She also wants me to get my heart rate checked out because it is so low. Wants to rule out some things. Take a look and let me know if there is any reason for concern. I have a lot of energy daily, but do fade to black on occasion when standing from a seated position.

I am thrilled with what WLS has given me. It is also a joy to help others here on VST.

Congrats! I've always heard that it's fairly normal for well-trained runners to have a resting heart rate between 40-60. Maybe you've become one of those? Good they are checking it out anyway.

Yes, every day is a new adventure! This is a far cry from the dismal depression I had pre op.

Fiddleman, there is a thread elsewhere regarding another sleever with a very similar resting heart rate following his weight loss. Somewhere in the 40's as well. If I recall, lots of medical tests led to the idea that his heart had become quite efficient after years of hard work. Or something of the sort... In any case - you should look around maybe on the Vet's forum or fitness forum for the thread.

I must say - Congrats!! Sounds like you have had great results, and I know you worked hard for your success. Awesome.

Always a good idea to get it checked out but don't be surprised if it is your new normal.

Six years ago, I lost 90 lbs and was doing sprint distance triathlons. (Of course when I got injured I gained it back and then some....)

Anyway. I ended up feeling a little faint. Went to family doctor with heart rate between 40 and 50. Had to wear a holter monitor for 24 hours. My sleeping heart rate was 25 but the cardiologist said it was normal for an aerobicly fit person.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
