I've noticed that chinese food is very high in calories and probably a lot of other bad stuff. I've stayed away from it just because of that.

It really depends on what food stage you are at. At 3 weeks out I was on pureed foods, so there were no real Chinese food options for me other than Soup (and for me, that wasn't a great option since I was trying to get my Protein in as best I could). Since starting all foods, I've had steamed shrimp/chicken with vegtables and garlic sauce on the side. A very small amount of sauce gave a great flavor. I agree that most menu items are fried, high calories/carbs and high sodium. As with anything, we need to make good choices.

Congrats on your surgery!! Good luck!

I like to have Chinese on occasion, but no longer eat things like orange chicken or fried rice.

Instead, I will eat BBQ pork or something like brocolli beef. There are probably a lot of other good chicken and beef entree suggestions that are lean with veggies. I mostly get my Chinese from a local diner, but will also eat at Pandas if more convenient when out. Just try and make good choices. Steamed veggies instead of fried rice or chow mein for example. I always have left overs for 2-3 more meals.

A little off topic, but the same principle of good choices also allows you to eat at Thai, Indian, Italian, Mediterranean, etc. The list goes on and on.

Tried it about 6-8 weeks after surgery. NO rice and NO eggroll. I had hot and sour Soup and some garlic chicken that was not breaded. Went fine and had A LOT of leftovers!! I am almost 4 months out.

Steamed veggies with steamed chicken or shrimp. Would not go with their beef too fatty. Use a little bit of sweet and sour sauce for a good taste. LITTLE BIT is the secret to the high calorie sauce.

I have a question . I know rice real value but I do like the taste of it once in a while.Obviously I wouldn't to be able to eat a lot but the question is will it hurt you. Has anyone tried it? What were the results? For the record I have no desire for it at this point in my journey .

I've heard that we are supposed to avoid rice because it swells in the stomach. That just doesn't make sense to me.

So I have had rice on several occasions. I enjoy it and have no adverse effects. I am 3 1/2 mos postop.

Rice is also fairly high in carbs, so good to avoid if you are losing weight.

I had Pandas shrimp non breaded no rice just 2 and was full. I want egg foo young but thinking about making a weight loss friendly recipe from the world according to egg face. I don't want to get ill or not loose weight trying foods off the plan.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
