Gastric Sleeve Pre-Op Question

Recommended Posts

Hi. I got the call today that my insurance approved my surgery, and now I have to set up an appt with the surgeon as to which surgery best suits me. My question is.. How much longer will it be before the surgery date is set? Thanks for your help.

:)

I started my journey jan8th met the surgeon feb6th and have my surgery for April 26th, I would say it depends on surgeons schedule and what they require for pre surgery testing and diets

This will be totally dependent on your insurance company and doctor's requirements. I believe the average is around six months. It was for me. Some insurance requires 6 mo of supervised diet/nutrition. My insurance was actually pretty easy on me. Took 6 mos because my doctor is such a stickler.

It definitely depends on your dr and insurance requirements. I had my first appt Jan 4th was approved Jan 6th and could have been sleeved the week of Valentine's day. I pushed my surgery out until March 20th by my own choice.

Thank you all for your experiences with the process. I really appreciate it. I just wish it'd come sooner. So anxious.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
