For me old habits are HARD to break....you will get there-I do the same thing sometimes you just need to pick yourself up and start with a new day! Best of luck to you!

I was banded on 22 Nov. When I have a craving like that (and its SO hard with my partner eating "normal" food every day in front of me) I just think about how much money I have spent on this and how much effort I have made already. I picture myself at 70 kilos. I picture myself slim and happy on my wedding day next July. I tell myself I don't want to slip my band or jeopardise my healing process.

Thats enough for my mind to say "Meredith, you really DON'T want that, do you?". Its an ongoing battle in my head, I think its just a battle of wills.

But I agree, being on liquids has been TOUGH as heck, what I wouldn't do for a slice of pizza right now.

You'll get there. Don't be so hard on yourself. First of all you've just been banded and have no restriction plus you've not had a fill yet so you should feel no different yet than before surgery. After you get good restriction trust me, you won't be able to overeat on the good foods.

we've all been there and we've all done that...don't be so hard on yourself. Its a normal reaction and it takes a lot of time to relearn to eat the right way.

This is still a critical time for you to heal so just be careful. Chances are your doctor will move you into the mushy phase when he sees you. Solids are not too far away. You are doing great. Hang in there.

I am not telling you to cheat, but if you have the urge to eat soemthing....blend it! Make it into a very thin mushy!!!! It helps!! And it will not h urt you! Also make sure it is just a small piece! :D

I ENVY YOU. After 6 days out, I can hardly smell food and I'm terribly nauseous. Are you or anybody out there able to dring a whole glass of Protein shake at a time? How about Water? I feel like I'm so full my stomach hurts after a Protein Shake this afternoon. I can't seem to drink anything much til evening. Then I still have problems.

So, Pinksoprano, while that was a little slip, and I'm sure we'll all make more in the future....relax and forgive yourself. It sounds to me like you'll be very successful!!! I can't wait to feel good enough to cheat a bit! :o

Take Care!!!

I had restriction after surgery too, however my "head hunger" was telling me to go buy a double cheeseburger and large fries. That is the moment that I realized most of my problem was a mental thing. I guess I should have already known that and probably did deep down. However, knowing I couldn't eat anything and still wanting things I shouldn't was really an eye opener for me at how dependent I was for food. Surgery doesn't solve those problems, however it does give you a tool to help you fight back and win!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
