How much salad can you eat?

Recommended Posts

I'm allowed to have salad now and was wondering how much you can eat of it so I know how much to buy. I hate having food go bad due to my poor planning :)

Don't buy a lot at one time. I can eat more salad (especially lettuce) than I can dense protein--but nowhere near what I used to be able to eat. I love salad! So glad to be eating it again. I add Protein to it. I like to get the heads of romaine lettuce bc they keep longer than precut salad or other types of lettuce. I usually also get at least 1 or 2 peppers, an English cucumber or mini cucumbers, shredded cabbage, and sometimes baby carrots. That is for both my husband and me though.

I agree with TES, early out I could only eat 4-5 bites. Now at 20 months out I can eat more than 1 cup! Start slow and chew well :-)

I find that I can get a good amount of salad in. I eat spinach so I can at least get some Fiber instead of empty calories with iceberg. Ill have about a cup of spinich leaves and about 2 ounces of chicken on it with ff dressing. Ill sprinkle low fat cheese on it too sometimes. I was thrilled when I was able to eat salad again.

I love salad, but I can only eat about a quarter cup before it starts to bother my stomach. The key is to chew really well before you swallow. Enjoy!

I agree, I can eat a lot of salad! I was amazed at how much. If I throw in some chicken it's a it less. I love salad too and was so happy to have it again!

When were you all able to eat salad? I'm 7 weeks out and ready to eat salad!

Iceberg at 6 weeks and everything else at 7-8 weeks. Haven't had any problems with any veggies, except the first time I ate lightly steamed cauliflower (might have eaten too much or too fast). Ate it a couple of days later and it was fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
