Very thorough, especually if you haven't done a ton of reseach! Easy to read and understand and well written! I'm still deciding b/t this and traditional roun-en-y but I definately leaning toward the sleeve!!!

I became a member here on June 14th and purchased the book at a discount from this site. It is a PDF book. I started to read it and when I closed the PDF it went back to the first page.

How do I get the PDF version to stay on the page I last read? Now Ih ave to search through the book and try an remember where I left off. A little frustrating but I am sure that is because I do not know how to use the PDF version.

There is lots of info, very well written and a lot of it I never saw any where else online.

I want to be able to also book mark certain sections so when I get my surgery in Jan I can refer back to the book. How do I do that? Thanks so much for writing it and any info you can give in regard to my reading it questions.

Not sure if PDF normally supports the features you've mentioned. I can give you the Nook or Kindle version free of charge and you just have to install the Nook or Kindle app on your computer and you'll have all the features you've mentioned.

Hi all,

It's nice to find a place to get info and hear from others. I'm just about through the qualifying process for insurance and will schedule sleeve surgery in a couple of weeks.

A couple of quick questions. Is "The Big Book..." still relevant and up to date? Have there been many changes since the book came out a few years ago? Has it been revised since the first edition? I know it's not that old but things often change quickly in medicine.

I'm an avid reader. Is there any other recommended reading material?

Thanks.

glenn

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
