I know this is an old post but I am using Dr. Avara also. I have a surgery date of April 15th. I only have one more visit with the NUT next friday and I see Dr. Avara for my last appointment before my surgery on April 10th. I have done every thing the office says I need to do with my insurance but they will not submit it until after next Friday. I'm nervous about getting approved. I guess its just because insurance companies can be so difficuld some times. Have you had your surgery yet?

Any suggestions or advice????

Hi! I have had an awesome experience with my surgery!! I was really anxious about the insurance at that same point. Just remember that they pre-certified you after your information session. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have or share my experience. Just send a pm.

I also had an awesome experience and continue to have an awesome experience. My journey has gone without a single hitch and I have lost 72lbs and am 6 lbs from goal. It seems so surreal still, but you will be here before you know it. Totally natural to be anxious at this point. They will take care of you every step of the way. Dr. Avara and staff are amazing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
