I hate liquids.

Uughhh, just need to get this off my chest. I am about three weeks post op and my surgeon has a four week liquid phase requirement prior to moving to purées. Add that to a two week pre-op phase and I am getting close to the end of my tolerance for liquids. I have not cheated and I will not, but man I am ready for some refried beans!!! I have had a complication free journey so far (knock on wood), no problems with liquids of any kind. I know these weeks are such a short amount of time in the grand scheme of things but man did I mention I want some refried Beans? ? With cheese and sour cream maybe, oh and guacamole. I can make it one more week, but d****t I want something other than liquid! (Have I mentioned that Mexican food is/was my favorite thing in the world...)

Ok, I feel better. :)

I'm with you... I've got 5 more days of liquids left. I have never been so excited to be able to eat mush before in my life!!!

Hi. Are you not able to have yogurt yet? I am on 2 weeks full liquid then can add yogurt, cottage cheese, soft scrambled egg, puree Soup, no-sugar added pudding. Maybe you can try slipping in some yogurt with Protein Powder added and see how you do. It is only 1/2 cup for a meal but it may help.

Just yesterday I bought some flavorless Protein powder at GNC and I think it will help me a lot! Right now I am drinking a shake made with ice, Water, Protein Powder and Mio tangerine orange flavor. It tastes good! If it weren't for this I would be barfing!! I could not handle another chocolate or vanilla shake if my life depended on it!!

Good luck!

I hate liquids too. I didn't really get a lot of post op instructions ( sleeved in Mexico ) so I've been winging it. A little more than 3 weeks out I can eat most anything within reason and have had no issues at all. I'm waiting to add things like salad and steak but I sure wish I had some. This continual battle to get enough liquids each day is just that - a constant battle.

Hang in there! I see some refried Beans in your near future.

I can't have yogurt, pudding, or pureed soup until 3 weeks out - and no eggs until week 6. Ugh. 5 more days until I hit puree!!

Yah, no yogurt, cottage cheese, etc until purée phase. I was doing great at first but now I'm struggling a little to get all my Protein and Water in. Not because of the inability to hold it, just cause the idea of another Protein Shake makes me ill. My check in is on Friday so I am praying they let me move up a few days early that day. Cross your fingers for me!

Are you just doing the sweet shakes or are you using unflavored Protein powder in broths, too? Just wondering if a little change to something savory would help...

Yeppers. I have tons of varieties of shakes, Protein broths from my Dr., unflavored protein...I'm just sick of it. I shouldn't whine though, I know it's almost over!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
