Pre-op requirements ... Long..

Recommended Posts

So I've been reading some posts and I'm a bit jealous. I see some only need like a 3 day liquid diet or low calorie meals. I wish lol.. I also have Anthem BCBS, but it's the program that I'm in that requires so much. I guess it's not a bad thing. Anyway here is my story. My entire journey started in August of 2012. I am required to do 4 meetings. 1 which was informational and handed out all the info you needed to make your decision. 1 meeting a month for 3 months which are educational and we have guest speakers that have had different surgeries. But mostly those meetings are repetitive. During that time and in order to proceed, you are required to have a physical, certain blood work, EKG, 2 session psych eval, letter of medical necessity, and lose and maintain 10lbs before you get onto the next step. Once you get that done you get your appts that lead you to surgery. You get an ultrasound, upper GI, nutritionist visit, nurse visit, and finally a visit with the surgeon! Which I have on Thursday! Yay! Then within 48 hours you get a call about your surgery! One more pre-op appt at the hospital for preregistration and then 2 weeks before surgery a liquid diet or phase 2 diet. I'm just glad I only have a few things left to do besides WAIT, and WORRY! Ahhhh lol. I still can't believe this is all starting to feel very real! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
