Suggestions during Pre-Op diet

Recommended Posts

Hi all! My surgery date is May 14th so that means I start my Meal Replacements on April 30ish. I can only have 700-900 calories a day. My question is how did y'all keep your mind off of your hunger (aside from keeping your eye on the prize...the surgery date). I'm known to get crafty from time to time but not sure how many crafts it is going to take to keep me from remembering I'm hungry lol. I'm going through this break-up with food and I get so worried it's going to call trying to win my love back :)! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My surgery date is May 2nd, I start liquids on the 18th. I'm dreading this more than the actual surgery! (kinda)

I plan to exercise. The weather has improved so much in Chicagoland in the last week that I plan to go walking the trails at a local park. I go to the gym early in the morning because I hate going after work when it's super crowded. I can hit up the trails in the afternoon. And I can resume learning guitar at night!

I also plan to get a good puzzle to work on. :)

I guess I should feel very lucky... I didn't have to do a pre-op diet, only Clear Liquids the day before. I definitely wouldn't have been able to last for those weeks before PLUS the post-op! I would definitely say stay away from the TV (stupid food commercials!!), get out and do something outside if possible!!

I am having surgery tomorrow and am on day 9 of my post op liquid diet. I also have a 7 year old so I have had to practice great self control. I just kept saying I am doing this for me and don't screw it up by a momentary bite of food.

I recommend gum for the chewing motion and apple juice when you need so sugar.

Good luck!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
